I Have A Theory About 'Rick & Morty'

Recently I got to thinking about what would happen years down the line of the show, if the titular characters would go on to continue adventuring. It occurs to me that Morty is Rick’s polar opposite, naïve, neurotic, oblivious, innocent, and optimistic. But if he continues down the path he’s on alongside Rick, its more than likely he’s destined to lose not only that naivety, but also much of his innocence and optimism. In other words; Morty is destined to end up exactly like Rick.

Now this got me thinking; if Morty is destined to become the next Rick, then perhaps Rick wasn’t actually the FIRST Rick?

What I mean by that is; how exactly did Rick get started crusading across the multiverse? Its never actually said let alone confirmed, but here’s what I think happened;

Rick’s grandfather was an adventurer like him, but maybe not so scientifically minded, so he dragged Rick along on his adventures, which eventually shaped Rick into the @$$hole he is today. All the while, Rick’s father never approved of Rick’s grandfather or Rick’s tagging along with the man, driving a wedge between them deeper and deeper over the years –basically he’s the original Jerry. Along the way he ended up with the girl who would become his wife and mother to his daughter Beth –this woman was Rick’s Jennifer. At some point Rick’s grandfather died or was lost or left or something and Rick was adventuring on his own. Unfortunately, his wife didn’t like that –especially what Rick had become, which led to many arguments and the two separating.

Now Morty is fated the same future; to end up with the girl of his dreams and a child to boot, but ultimately to be separated from them both and be an old, cynical @$$hole who will inevitably drag his own grandchild on his adventures

Seems like you didn't watch the first episode of season 3 on april fool's. I'd disprove your theory, but it would be spoilers. Go watch it.

@automx03: That flashback was all a ruse he used to trick his captors and escape. We still don't know what actually happened
