So why did Rick smile at the end of "The Walking Dead" when his group was surrounded by seemingly hostile forces armed with knives and guns?

What do you think he saw or realized that made him smile?

Being a huge fan of the first and second season, I think that Rick finally realised he should've stayed in that tank, killed himself and joined the zombie horde.

Whew it took him long enough.
