I just finished American psycho and not sure what happened...

Did he not really kill those people? Did he just imagine it?

LOVE that film. I walked away thinking it was all in his head, but I think it's meant to be ambiguous so you're left wondering. Apparently in the book it's a little more clear, but I haven't read it.

The Author, Brett Easton Ellis. Said that he was trying to portray Yuppie Wall Street where all these guys are the same.. Anytime they talk about someone, they are all confused about which one they are speaking of. They all dress the same and the only difference in an attempt to stand out is the infamous Business Card Scene.

In Patrick's attempt to be original, he conjures up this fantasy where he kills all of these people. He wants to break out of the mold and be different.

In the book, he kills more people and it's MUCH more violent. But you can really feel the depravity and his downward spiral of thoughts.

I love Christian Bale as an actor, but the book is SO much better. Gives you a much better idea of what's going on.
yeah. it left me scratching my head.. ive just decided to make sure any business cards i get made arnt too flash...

Oh. For sure.

Maybe his lawyer covered it up?
Honestly.. I think I was just glad it ended lol..
I don't remember the mental twist at the end

It is supposed to leave you confused. I think you have to decide on your own but I do believe it happened.

Ahhhh ya. The clue to it being all in his headis the ATM telling him to feed him the kitten. The clue to it being real is the apartment being remodeled. Not sure!
Monster69 · 56-60, M
I like the bit where he tells the girl to eat the others girls ass!
CarmenSanDiego · 36-40, F
I think that's the obvious conclusion..
JarJarBoom · 41-45, F
The ending is subjective
CarmenSanDiego · 36-40, F
Ya. I'm starting to get that. I thought maybe I missed something obvious -

Patrick Bateman doesn't fail to amaze me. Yes he was sick in his head, but the way he functioned is close to perfection. A degree from Harvard, looks like that, a job so nice, wow.

More importantly, did you have that tasty looking cake?
CarmenSanDiego · 36-40, F
I did!

@CarmenSanDiego: Good, with milk or coffee?
LachrymoseLamer · 51-55, M
That's the big question!
Isn't it an awesome book though!! :D
Primnproper · 56-60, F
Yes I found that weird, I thought he imagined it..
Monster69 · 56-60, M
Hard to say but I think it was all in his head...

imagined it all
CarmenSanDiego · 36-40, F
Is it a possibility that his lawyer had it covered up?
That was a funny movie.
CarmenSanDiego · 36-40, F
I thought it was interesting that it's listed as a "dark comedy".
ChefBrian · 41-45, M
The book or the movie?
CarmenSanDiego · 36-40, F
The movie. I was on tv...
ChefBrian · 41-45, M
Yeah.. Read the book. It's sort it.
CarmenSanDiego · 36-40, F
@ChefBrian: I'll put it on the list!
The book or film?
Book's a lot better. The narrative is supposed to put you in that confused perspective and the ending is pretty much up to your imagination.

@Outoforbits: I hear it's a pretty good book!
