Hard choice, but I like the no-nonsense character of Matt Dillon (James Arness).

Festus is some character. Did he ever buy a drink?
@GunSmoke9: If Festus (Ken Curtis) could convince Doc (Milburn Stone) to buy his drink, I doubt it. Lol
I read a bio that revealed Mr. Arness was a decorated, World War II vet. His decorations included a Bronze Star and Purple Heart for injuries received, while serving with the U.S. Third Infantry Division, as a rifleman, during combat operations at Anzio, Italy, in 1944.

BONANZA -- the only TV show where marrying the main star was a more fatal proposition than being an unnamed red-shirt on a STAR TREK away team.

That's funny, and true. Thanks.

HAVE GUN - WILL TRAVEL , if I can choose. But of the two, BONANZA. Loved HOSS AND THE ELVES. ;) And loved the concept of a 45-year old many with three 30-35 year-old sons

Pernell Roberts said the same thing. Who has better facial expressions than Hoss?

Both great shows, but would pick Gunsmoke over Bonanza.
