To me it seems like they just keep trying to remake past hit movies trying desperately to make a new box office hit from something that worked before instead of producing other works out there.

Maybe big Hollywood producers have but there are still great films being made. I think it's just laziness. It's easy to profit off of existing fans' nostalgia.

I agree with you there. @SW-User

I'm actually keeping a running tally of all the live-action remakes Disney has put out/will put out: Beauty and the Beast, The Little Mermaid, Dumbo, Aladdin, Mulan, The Jungle Book, Charlotte's Web, Pete's Dragon, the two Alice in Wonderland films...

Not counting Maleficent since that was more of a crappy prequel, and Mary Poppins Returns was a sequel.

I know what you are saying and that's just Disney @ScrewThisImDone

But you have to admit its never been nearly as common as it is now.

Very true. @ScrewThisImDone

Man without vision is dead. Hollywood has no vision of the future.
rjc36 · 56-60, M
That is what it seems like. @Steve42
@Steve42 Au contraire, Hollyweird does have a vision of the future. It's whatever makes them ca$h that doesn't necessarily correlate with what the others want. If what the masses want is:

...then that's what's profitable for Hollyweird to produce, and therefore it will get made. Probably. But if it's not profitable, say like an art house movie or cinema nouveau, it won't get made.

Now compare that monetary sensibility with what is getting made. There you have it, as well as a reflection of the majority of the film viewing culture.

That happened a while ago.
rjc36 · 56-60, M
Yes many years ago. @Sicarium
That happened may, many years ago. Simple economics is the reason. What is the largest demand these days? Is the demand for originality? Thought-provoking story? Great script? Avant-garde production? I could go on but, I think you have the answer↓

I don't mind squeals as long as they are good. I just don't like all the reboots or remakes. @Stereoguy
