Am I the only one who gets lowkey uncomfortable watching Dr. Phil?

My family is hooked on that show, and I used to enjoy it too at some point, but...

Whenever the audience laughs at something one of the people say I just can't help but feel like they're being shamed. Humiliated on public TV. 馃槱

I get that they're getting help, but it still bothers me a lot.

I have to agree. It seems the guests are often laughed at and scolded before being offered pretty decent help (the one true silver lining to the show).

I also don't agree with how often Dr. Phil is into blaming parents when they feature an out of control child. Some kids really do have serious problems that even the best of parenting can't fix. That is why they are there.

He鈥檚 really gotten out of control over the years and has turned into a condescending, pompous gasbag.

@LyricalOne, my stomach really turns when he stops his show to feature his wife's beauty products.
LyricalOneF
@Peapod OMG! I was gonna add that! Talk about shameless! Like they鈥檙e not rich enough! 馃檮

@LyricalOne, his wife has had obvious botox and plastic surgery, so trying to say her skin creams will restore your face is bogus. Shame on them for that one.

Low key?? But its not about him.. Its about the people he brings onto his show.. How can they be SO helpless and willing to throw themselves under a bus in front of America?

@whowasthatmaskedman, sure is a shame what some have to do to get good help. That is what always goes through my mind.

@whowasthatmaskedman Good mental health care is hard to come by, and it's far from free. The people who become guests on Dr. Phil often get good help at expensive facilities with great followup for little to nothing.

I'm glad they get the help, but it's so painful to see people crying or being otherwise upset while an audience laughs.

@NorthernRoses, completely agree.

I never got to watch that show

Yeah, it bothers me too. My mom used to watch that show every day. It's been a while since she has watched it, but I also feel bad for the people being humiliated. You couldn't pay me enough to go on that show, no matter how badly I needed help.

I feel the same, but at the same time, you kind of need a bit of public humuliation to snap you out of it, because his cases are pretty severe imo. But yeah, I wouldn't wish it upon anyone though.
That鈥檚 similar to Judge Judy, free litigation, and the price is possible public humiliation. I stopped watching Dr. Phil a long time ago.

@bijouxbroussard, I watch a lot less. I will hit it on occasion if something grabs my attention, but it's not like some of the better talk shows of the past that really had substance.

I never was a fan of his
