What did Liam Neeson actually say to get himself in trouble?

whowasthatmaskedman · 70-79, M
Nothing. He was actually trying to apologise for feeling the need for revenge some years ago and explaining how he knew he was so wrong to feel that way.

Liam Neeson is at the centre of a race row following comments he made in an interview about wanting to hunt down a friend’s rapist.

The remarks came in an interview the Taken actor gave to the Independent, in which he explained his reaction to the news.

But what did he say that caused the outrage?

In the interview, the 66-year-old recalls the traumatic ordeal of learning the unnamed friend had been raped, saying they handled the ordeal ‘in the most extraordinary way’.

However he continued by explaining that he had taken to the streets with a cosh, wanting to avenge the assault.

‘My immediate reaction was… I asked, did she know who it was?’ he said. ‘No. What colour were they? She said it was a black person.

‘I went up and down areas with a cosh, hoping I’d be approached by somebody – I’m ashamed to say that – and I did it for maybe a week, hoping some [Neeson gestures air quotes with his fingers] “black bastard” would come out of a pub and have a go at me about something, you know? So that I could… kill him.’

The actor went on to admit he had never told the story publicly before.

The remarks have resulted in a storm both on social media and beyond.

@BlueClapTrap erm kay
He said he hoped a black man tried to start a fight with him so he could kill them. The bit people forget is it was in response to his friend being raped by a black guy and him wanting to get revenge. He didn't actually do anything and said it only to highlight how wrong he was to feel that way.
Admitting his experience with racist feelings, admitting it because he is no longer that narrow minded and looks back in shock of it.
Racism and predujice is a low and uncivilised part of human nature but it is there and people moving past it and admitting to it I do see as a positive thing. Admission should help bring us closer together not automatically jump up and down and call racist because that's a pretty low level of humanity itself.
@MushroomFaerie Wow, where did you come from? a sane rational positive person is such a rarity...as one can see from Twitter...thank you
@LILY61 nobodies ever said that to me before lol, thanks

That he wanted to hunt down and kill the Black man who raped his Friend years ago
@Gusman i want to know the exact wording under what circumstances he said it
Gusman · 61-69, M
@LILY61 Google it. It is there for all to see.
@Gusman i tried and kept getting the same thing in variation...someone else's interpretation of what he said

He was describing how he felt at the time...
If it was an Irish Scott Lithuanian anyone from at continent he would have felt the same way!
Pity he didn't know my dad when he broke every rib in my mums body I would have been glad of the help!
My dad's from Belfast and Liam would have had no problem dealing with dirt from his own neighbourhood!

Admitting difficulty with past bigotry despite not suffering it anymore.

Social justice mentality in a nutshell: oh a person said something offensive to my tastes a decade ago? Oh, he changed, you say? Punish him for it anyway!
@SW-User i know. this is getting stupid. I mean, sexual assault is one thing, but going out to look for a fight because you are having a meltdown about your friend being raped...and not actually doing anything...that is all together different. If he had assaulted someone, it might be different...unless he took out his violence on someone he knew to be a rapist. But if he actually went out and beat up some black guy because he was mad at some other black guy...then he should be in jail.

He basically said

My daughter got raped by a black man. I wanted to wait outside a bar for a black bastard and kill him

He then apologised after every news feed jumped on it.

When he was about 20 a girl he’s close to got raped by a black man and he went into a rage because of it and just wanted to fight any black guy he saw.

Apparently someone close to him was raped by a black man. He wanted to pick a fight with any black man he saw as a way to get revenge.
