What happened to movies with an actual plot?

Apparently all you need now is special effects and put the rock in it to call it a movie now.

The plot I see most of the time is some guy takes revenge on someone who killed his family.
It would be nice if there were some new ideas out there.

@GingerPeach Yes. Charles Bronson and others covered that years ago. Not sure what is new to be said, really.

It's time for the writers to move on and thinks of some other plots to write about.
