Why are movie scientists so stupid?
Geez, I know why, because movie directors either know little of science & reason themselves, or assume that their viewers don't either.
But that's an enormous limitation! Realistic characters & worlds, even if they're fantastical, create the most compelling, complex, & beautiful of worlds! But when the characters & worlds are totally uninspired & inauthentic, the audience is often unmoved & unconvinced by everything that happens to these plain people in this plain world.
People actually do enjoy intricate & believable worlds, that's why Star Wars, Lord of the Rings, Game of Thrones, Westworld, & other similar media have such passionate & devoted audiences.
Mediocrity will sell, but so will ingenuity, ingenuity creates a vast reserve of valuable content, giving viewers an ever-increasing interest in the series of films or television.
