I had it recommended to me by numerous american friends, & tried watching it, but it seems so .. blatant, unsubtle, that I couldn't really get into it.

@WoodyAq different cultural expectations, I think - I was raised on british TV mostly, which has a very much more oblique approach to things (except when it doesnt)
