I Have a Suggestion for Similar Worlds

It has come to my attention via another SW user that, following a recent change, if one user is blocked by another user, the blocked user cannot then see or search for the blocker's name under 'people' in order to block them back. You now have to go to your blocked user names section under 'profile' and enter the exact user name from memory. Unless we can remember the exact name we will not be able to keep our privacy intact - this seems unfair.

My suggestion is that you consider either:

1) Changing the system back again (the old system was, at least, fair to both parties); or

2) Making it so that when one user blocks another, a two way block takes place and that both users appear in each other's block lists. This way the blocks must be released by both parties in order to view each other's profiles again.

(All the new system seems likely to do is to force people to set up false accounts to find the correct user name in order to block back).

I've just carefully read your suggestion. You do have a point and we'll see if we can think of a way to accommodate for both sides.

However, you are mentioning an "old system/version". From my memory, we've always hidden both sides since the beginning of Similar Worlds. Could you please be more specific how was that old system you're talking about, that was more fair to both sides? I'll be happy to consider that once I understand :)

@ Nuno...I think what he means is on the old system if you clicked on the username it would show you couldn't view their profile and give you the option to block back..now you only discover you're blocked when you can't see their post or answers and to block them back we have to know their full username from memory which with some here that's nigh on impossible..or we need to be able to have a list or be notified when blocked and by which user so we can block in return if possible..I had someone that used to block then unblock to leave obscene messages and block again so I could do nothing about it..

@Nuno: You used to be able to search and find the user who blocked you under 'people' if you could not remember the exact username. You could then click on that user and, although you could not access the profile, the options for mute and block were available to us. A recent change has hidden that user from view altogether, giving them the power to unblock and re-block at will doing whatever they wish in the blocked user's profile. Unless you change the function back again the only option to find that user will be to create a fake (hence unblocked) account.

Option 2) would be the best option in my view because, then, a two way block is in place that can only be released by BOTH users unblocking so both parties accounts are protected from abuse. As it stands, only the account of the person making the original block is protected (as detailed in the above paragraph).

Yes I must admit I'm terrible for remembering some as their so complicated.. To be honest I don't see what was wrong with the old system, it's that don't fix what isn't broken syndrome..lol
