Thinking about joining the US Navy any advice or thoughts?

I've always had so much respect for the US Military. And i've been struggling to find the next step for me ever since I graduated high school. And I think joining the Navy would be a huge honor. I believe it will give me that sense of purpose that I have been longing for. I know its scary and hard as hell. But I think its what I need in my life right now. I just want to do good for my country and to make my family and myself proud. [image deleted]

If you want a military career, not just a few years in the service, consider attending a military college and then going in as an officer.

I wish you the very best. The military can be a great career.
I came from a Navy town, home of the Blue Angels, worked on the Lexington that had 300 Waves on board. I respect our military. Do you know what you'd like to do?

I'm honestly not sure what i'd like to do.
@MKM1996: you can talk to someone, get an idea of the different jobs, training

Please give it some thought as to what you want to do. You can join as enlisted and get technical training. You can go to college, then join as an officer. There even used to be programs where you could go to college, graduate and become an officer and the military would send you to med school.

What ever you do, when the recruiter makes the offer - ask lots of questions and make sure you understand what it is that you are signing up for. The service can be rewarding, but it is not for everyone.

Good luck.

Not sure if you're still thinking of this or not but my dad was in the military and he always talked about "if he could change one thing" it would be joining the Army instead of any other branch.

When you're going through basic training there's a term called "recycling" where, if you fail a test point, you get put back in time. It's the same thing as having to repeat a grade in school if you fail the grade. Thing is, you lose _everything_. The job you wanted? Gone. You favorite posting locations. Bye-bye! While you're already at the mercy of the military for what they need, if you get put back in basic, you've lost everything and get the jobs that no one wants. Janitor. Repair/maintenance positions that no one wants and doesn't translate to real world jobs.

The Army has a clause in their contracts that let you keep your job even if you get recycled in basic. You'll be able to go to your job though if you fail in training for your job you do go into infantry...

I joined the Navy in 1984 , I served 6 years . To me it was a great honor . I know that things in the Navy have changed a lot . I encourage to know that you plan on joining . I think it's a good decision . My son has been in the Navy fo 18 years. He is looking forward to retiring.

If you want to follow the rules and commands in your life then choose Military otherwise pls don't. We are not here for any stupid rules and commands by Exploiting Military force in the name of Patriotism.

I was in the US Army. Being in the military can be a rewarding experience. Are you considering a career in the military, or just thinking of gaining experience that you might use in another career?

If I were you I would go into the Air Force! I think it is the better of the four branches of service! I am a twenty year retired veteran! I did my time in the Army!

Find out if you get seasick, and if you stand barely okay food and water for long stretches.

Yeah. You can probably try exercising home. So you wouldn't rip anything there
