Im proud of their achievements, grateful for their endeavours, saddened by their sacrifice.

The British military aren’t the largest, most tech heavy or the best supported. But we Have highly skilled individuals serving our country, we are famous/infamous for punching above our weight and we are not intimidated by a larger adversary.
Budwick · 70-79, M
I'm a USA citizen, served in Viet Nam era.
I love and respect all branches of our military.
They do a difficult job, a sometimes life threatening job for little pay. And, sometimes the folks at home are very appreciative.

Having a strong military is the best way to ensure peace.
jackjjackson · 61-69, M
Commies? 😂 @Budwick
Crazychick · 36-40, F
@Budwick The ones who have nuclear bombs.
Budwick · 70-79, M
@Crazychick So, you say that those who have nuclear bombs say that having them is a good way to ensure peace - is that right?

Might be true.
The only ones I know that ever used 'em was us, the very first ones on Japan. And, I guess everyone saw the devastation and is extremely reluctant to use them ever again.

But then you've got crazy places like Iran - I don't think they give much thought to the devastation - anymore than they think about themselves being blown into a thousand pieces when they starp on bombs.

Hey, fun chat!

@quitwhendone Oh I think we are far from those days (days requiring military defense of the realm) being gone for good. The threat matrix facing all western democracies today is growing not shrinking.
@sarabee1995 Being that I am much older than you and have lived through what you may consider ancient U.S. history, I am less optimistic.

President GW Bush had our military invade Iraq in 2003 on very flimsy grounds (the existence of WMD). Think about how you would feel if Russia had invaded Iraq back in 2003 based on the same reasoning Pres. Bush gave. No matter how many times Putin claimed to be protectimg Russia, and the world, from a murderous despot and his WMD, we would have called it an illegal act of aggression. In fact, we likely would have used military force to twart their effort.

I know you are too young to have thought about it in realtime but as a military officer, I am sure you know more about than most people your age and probably most people my age.
sarabee1995 · 26-30, F
@quitwhendone Well, true, I didn't live through any of this in "real time" but my undergrad degree is in International Relations where we studied to death the modern day real world "Game of Thrones" or interaction of nations. And my grad degree is in Security Studies where the specific actions you mention and many others were dissected in minute detail. We've made some mistakes, but as I said before, I truly believe that we have been a net force for good in the world in the post-war era up to and including today. If I didn't believe that, I wouldn't have put on this uniform two years ago.
JesseInTX · 51-55, M
I am grateful and thankful for our men and women who choose to wear the uniform and protect my nation’s freedom 🇺🇸
PitbullBiker · 46-50, M
I loved being part of the military for almost 26 years. It made me who I am today.

Well, they help keep me employed, so that's a huge plus in my book.

Plus, my dad is retired US Navy, my grandfather made weapons during WWII, and I have ancestors that fought in the Civil War and American Revolution, so it's pretty much entrenched in my family legacy.
FaeLuna · 31-35, F
@sarabee1995 We try! Thank you for your part in this as well! You're definitely more deserving of a thank you than I am!
sarabee1995 · 26-30, F
@FaeLuna We all play a role. :)
TexChik · F
@FaeLuna 😉😁👍🏻. That’s an awesome legacy to uphold .
sarabee1995 · 26-30, F
My thoughts vary from one military organization to another, but clearly the US Navy is the premier fighting force in the world and simultaneously a humanitarian organization. :) Oh, and yeah, the US Army is okay too. ;)

@Crazychick happens, I'm not an english speaking person either.
sarabee1995 · 26-30, F
@Crazychick Yes, and literally it means to put into effect a planned course of action. 🙄
sarabee1995 · 26-30, F
@Crazychick To take words literally is not a problem. But to do so, one must know the meaning of the words.
Needed for defence if my country is under threat.

Our military kicks ass when allowed to.
JonathanC · 61-69, M

The American military save for some particular units are a rabble in uniform...[/quote]

However that may be, it was good enough to save your hides in two hot world wars and one cold war in the past century. 😏

Kipling had it right:

"For it's Tommy this, an' Tommy that, an' "Chuck him out, the brute!"
But it's "Saviour of 'is country" when the guns begin to shoot;
An' it's Tommy this, an' Tommy that, an' anything you please;
An' Tommy ain't a bloomin' fool -- you bet that Tommy sees!"
I would say something if I were an Iraqi killed in the early oh ohs or an Afghan killed by the USA in the early nineties...or a Palestinian killed by an Israeli or a Yemeni kid killed by SA right now.
Jackaloftheazuresand · 26-30, M
I hold the people in low regard and not for their war activities
sarabee1995 · 26-30, F
@Jackaloftheazuresand You hold all people in all militaries in low regard? Or just certain people? Or certain militaries? Please be more clear.
Jackaloftheazuresand · 26-30, M
sarabee1995 · 26-30, F
@Jackaloftheazuresand Why do you hold us all in such low regard? I really am curious about this.
deadgerbil · 22-25
I think the US military is pretty cool
