Any military nuts here?

Would you say this is in truth a carrier? If it looks like a carrier and is expected to behave like a carrier why not call it a carrier?

It is a carrier/amphibious assault ship. What's the problem
@Longpatrol The ships also carry landing craft in an aft dock.

@quitwhendone ah yeah true
@Longpatrol
From the Wiki article:
The ship will be equipped with heavy and medium helicopters (EH101 and NH90 respectively) and Lockheed Martin F-35B Lightning II aircraft. It will have a floodable well deck below the hangar level able to accommodate amphibious landing vessels such as LCM (new Cantieri Navali Vittoria LCM23 type), LCAC, and newer L-CAT (Landing Catamaran) vessels. It also can carry Ariete MBT, B1 Centauro tank destroyers, and up to 600 soldiers. Its base will be in Taranto.
No fixed wing planes

Hmm, even if it’s slated to carry the F35? I’m confused because where I come from we have an LHD as well but it carries like 3 helicopters max.@Human1000

@Longpatrol no fixed wing planes, my man.
@Longpatrol Its named by its use. The US calls its similar ships amphibious assault ships, like the USS Bonhomme Richard, USS Iwo Jima and USS America.

@SW-User @quitwhendone meant to also carry F 35’s. I guess principally my confusion arises from thinking that ships were classified by three things: tonnage, role, complement.
