I am gung ho. Kidding. when I met this guy in the seventh grade (he had gone to the same school first and second grade them moved to California for five years came back to the projects and same school I knew of them. pretty rough family. Anyway the first day of school I looked him already because we were seated alphabetically my name started with Ba****and his was Adkins,I finally had someone in front of me, the first day he said I'm going to join the Marines as soon as I turn 17 you want to join with me? Thinking I won't be 17 for 4 years and this will probably go away by then so I said yeah I'll join with you.
well we told everyone in the school and everyone in the projects. And we kept telling them. we went to different high schools for a while I was at a prove high school 9 thru 12. Around April we decided my money would be better spent somewhere else. So from all boy school to public school that had mini skirts on all the girls. Anyway it didn't go away. And now years of saying this time to put up our fight 3 times a day till I could remember to keep my mouth shut. He was two weeks older than me and chomping at the bit, so The night before my birthday the recruiter came to my house to get my mom's signature. The next morning I was at the federal building too my physical and written test and that evening I was standing at attention on Parris Island Marine Corps Recruit Depot
Gawd it was hot. And ask we did was stand at attention till they went through everyone's paper work . My buddy almost passed out. another guy did I'm sure his nose was broken from hitting that table on his way down. That's alright he was a bed wetter and was sent home in a week or so.

I almost joined, but my father talked me out of it. The recruiter thought I was a boy, and called my house and talked me into joining. I actually went and had the physical. My Dad was army, and I really admired him.

@4meAndyou I left for boy camp on my 17th birthday but I did not encourage my two boys. The youngest got all signed up and backed out. I even got him authorized to take not camp at Parris Island, we're from Texas he would have gone to San Diego. But he backed out. Which was ok by me since Iraq was an illegal way I think. The military followed orders. The politicians are at fault. thx for reading

@kentex35 No problem. I tend to agree that there was something funny about Iraq.
I joined when the 52 hostages were taken in Iran in 79.
