What are three things military service members wish civilians knew or understood?

Mentalicious · 61-69, M
I'm a vet
and I wish civilians knew self discipline.
2 how to work together,

and 3 stay off drugs, except weed is ok as long as it doesn't interfere with the safety of their employment

@Master5dad Thank you, but I was in peacetime during the Reagan administration. It was like a 9 to 5 job for us.
I was lucky everyone seem to be behaving themselves in the world
and I got off lucky
Well that can always change at the drop of a hat, and you all know that you do take on major responsibility and lose a lot of autonomy or have to go where you're told I'm just glad there are people like you who are willing to make the sacrifice.@Mentalicious

@Master5dad Thank you.
I joined when I was 17 years old because I had heard you gain rank faster if you enlist instead of being drafted. Although the draft wasn't in effect when I went in.

But when they wanted me to be my friend's boss, I couldn't do it.
They should have sent me to another base where I didn't know the people

I have long since given up on the civilian ever relating.
It's not even about relating it's about education. I'd honestly like to know @MasterLee
When I was in the service, civilians were always happy to see us, and I never met anyone who didn't understand my place in life. This one stumps me.
I meant about the military in general misconceptions that civilians have about the military or the procedures.@puck61
@Master5dad In that case, I suppose it would be things like 'discipline', 'accountability', 'teamwork' 'responsibility' etc etc.....
