Because someone finally explained to him that there are very few upsides to going to war with Iran. No real practical endgame. No international support to speak of. No real internal opposition to take advantage of. Lots of asymmetrical ways Iran can get at us and our few allies on this. Etc, etc.

was brilliant imo. It sent a strong, clear message (warning) to Iran. Whereas many leaders would just talk and do nothing (Europe...), he showed them and the critics that he has the competence and will to go all out if need be...

@SW-User Iran is no different than North Korea, they like to posture and pretend they're powerful; when in reality, their military is a joke. Their air force is still flying around in obsolete aircraft designed in the 50's - 60's that we sold to them in the 80's. 75% of their navy is small river boats/pt boats made out of wood & fiberglass, the rest being ancient cold war era frigates and submarines. Their entire ground force only consists of around 500k poorly trained, poorly equipped soldiers that wouldn't stand a snowballs chance in Hell against a single US division. Their total military budget is about 3% of ours...
The Iraqi military was more modern & powerful 30 years ago in the gulf war than the Iranian military is today, and we kicked their asses up one side and down the other in just a few months...
It's laughable really, and Trump is just humoring their wish to dig themselves into their own hole...🤔

I don't know but did you see how much that drone costs that they shot down. 220 million dollars of our tax money. Shooting down aircraft in international airspace over international waters, that ought to have some kind of measured reprisal.

Personally I have this feeling Trump and others have this romantic vision if the Cold War era and wish to recreate one. Or at the very least want to handle current situations the way we did diluting the Cold War.
