What is life like in the armed forces?

I am 25 and I have been recommended to have a look at joining the armed forces. I have never really seen them as a career path but I think I will give anything a go.

It's great fun but its hard. You need to be mentally and psychologically strong. You have to be prepared to follow orders no matter what happens.

For example: If you were ordered to shoot a kid, would you be able to do it and not think twice?

That's the kinda shit that will mess you up.

You also need to be prepared to lose family as a result. My family disowned my Uncle Leo when he went into the Army. They still spoke to him but didn't call him family.

Good on ya,my friend! Well, for starters, obviously the more education one has,the more opportunities will be available to you. What are your areas of professional or vocational interest? Any training so far in those interest such as UNI courses or credits? Have you taken any online aptitude tests to help guide you? Have you considered which branch of service you'd be interested in joining? All my best to you!

My step son joined at 18, went to Iraq. Was an intel officer. He talks about it now not fondly. I suppose it depends what you're looking at doing? Which branch of the armed services? Have you considered the Coastguard too?

@Sroonaka616 (Sorry I made the assumption you're American). I have a couple of friends who joined The RN and one a RM after leaving school. All loved it, learned a worthwhile trade. Go for it, but you already know selection standards are pretty high.

@Sroonaka616 No worries. Good luck with whatever you decide.
Military is a good start if you can handle chaos.
Discipline & adventure of the belt forces comes along with their share of tough spots too.

Bests! 👍
Independent work is way better. You can choose what and where you are going.
