Is Assad Putin's punk? Is Russia using him to start a fight?

Back in the old days, a punk was a little guy who would mouth off to a big guy and get himself hit, in order to give someone else an excuse to fight. Are Assad's actions a convenient way to cause the US to take an action that will give Putin an excuse to strike? This all seems choreographed to me.

I suspect a similar thing but I think I'm looking at it from a different point of view.
What I see is Assad being accused of using chemical weapons just when Trump was talking about withdrawing from Syria. Why would Assad do that when he knows very well that doing so would prevent a withdrawal of American troops ?
Also no real proof has been provided yet.

Before that Russia was accused, and still is,of the British spy poisoning thing without anyone showing real proof.

Before that Russia was accused , and still is, of interfering in USA elections without anyone showing real proof.

It does all come across as rather badly choreographed manipulation of the citizens of the world.
@Wraithorn A dog and pony show on an ominously gigantic scale.

@Wraithorn There has ben quite a bit of credible proof for all 3 of those events. Why exactly would Assad want the US to stay in the Middle East?
Wraithorn · 51-55, M
@SW-User I haven't seen or heard about real proof. All I've heard is politicians spreading really dangerous rumour and hearsay. Even the smallest magistrate's court in the world will demand real proof.
Politicians are assuming that if they repeat lies often enough then we, the citizens of the world, will start to think that it sounds true.
We are talking about serious situations here that have an effect on millions of lives worldwide. Rumour and heresay is nowhere near to acceptable.

Yeah, Putin is bored! i don't think he'd go to a full scale war but certainly smack the hand of the USA for being cheeky. The only one who could offer any resistance to Russia would be China. Give it 10, 20 yrs maybe India?
SW-User
@puck61 Guessing you don't mean the illegal ones from beyond the wall?
@SW-User Nah, perhaps at this point we should consider taking them all in and conscripting them!
SW-User
@puck61 maybe.

Assad is going to get his ass kicked and Russia has little resources to do much about it. If Russia gets involved it won't be much of a fight.
@SW-User It's hard to find anything refuting the claims.

@puck61 Oh, I know that Eastern Europe is afraid. Putin could get them quickly enough that there would be little resistance. I didn't realize that it was quite that bad, but I am not surprised. The global rise in nationalism is wonderful for Putin. It suits his purposes perfectly. Currently, our divisions have made us an easier target.
@SW-User "Divide and conquer" No doubt Putin will build us a golden bridge upon which to retreat also.

He is certainly Putin's punk. Whether or not he's slipped the leash or is following Russia's lead here is harder to tell at the moment. There's a lot of conflicting stuff out there.
SW-User
I think that is a very good analysis of the situation.
