It's all in the context of what they are saying. Russia might indeed inflict heavy losses against NATO, but only initially, and only in a preemptive type strike done without warning. After the initial strike, Russia does not have the resources, nor the capability to sustain a pitched battle/war outside its borders and would ultimately be defeated.
The Pentagon brass want more... more everything. Money, troops, advanced weaponry, stockpiles of armaments prepositioned all across the globe, more warships, aircraft, and on and on. Many of their remarks are geared towards getting the funding and support they want... always has been, always will be.

@frequentlyme I think you and Tex make a good point here. Thank you!

@puck61 It's not jsut a good point, it is fact. Can't say how I know; but it is fact. Russia is incapable of any projected large scale battle outside their borders.

The green tyranny has been reversed, Russia no longer has a stranglehold on world oil, their lifeblood, their whole economy is based on oil. Obama's search and destroy mission, the diabolical plot the wannabe thug Hussein Obama wished to unleash upon the United States energy grids/command and control centers has now been thwatered by the reversal of most EPA regulations. Russia has been put in its place by just reversing those treasonous EPA regulations. Trump's greatest accomplishment to date was the reversal of the former tyrant's EPA regulations. All is well, Russia has been neutered by Trump and nobody has the discernment to see this. Nobody wishes to live in reality.

Oddly enough, I believe there will be a 'union' between both countries, in the future, to deter a greater threat.

@puck61 THe Russian proletariat are much like other citizens - they work, they suffer, they love their families. The most obnoxious are the media who fan those embers of hatred into an inferno!
@EugenieLaBorgia I love the Russian proletariat! I've partied with some of them, and they make excellent pornography. They drink well, and they are admirably ruthless and compassionate.

@puck61 Agreed!!

Our military budget is greater than the entire Russian GDP. And we just got a big bump to facilitate repairs and upgrades and to increase training . Complex machines are expensive to maintain and the wear and tear on them is tremendous . Even here more than 40 % of our aircraft are not in service awaiting parts ... and our accident rate is up due to a decrease in training . So I would suspect Russia’s arsenal is probably in a greater state of disrepair . While Russia rattles a big Sabre , is their equipment up for a romp with NATO??? I suspect the General was hedging his bets for budget increases with a little false information. .

I recently read a blog by a Russian woman
about their family's daily life,
the situation in the kids school
and they can see something coming
the average russian "man in the street"
is worried
I wish I kept the blog as a bookmark
the comments from other russians on her post
was of similar trend

In each others face like never before? Have you forgotten the Cold War? Nothing will happen anyway. Neither the West or Russia want to go to war.

Where did they say that? I'm not sure I'd believe that. Sure, Russia could defeat some NATO members within hours, but all of them? Nope. The US is in NATO too after all. To win a conventional war against the US, Russia would have to run up against a vastly bigger Navy and Air Force than they themselves have. Their supply lines for their multitude of ground weapons would be nightmarishly long, and pounded by air and Naval bombardment at all hours. The cost of maintaining any meaningful occupation in Europe or on any other continent would be extraordinary, especially for them, their national GDP is about half the size of California's alone. No, I don't believe Russia could defeat the entirety of NATO.

@puck61 I worked military logistics for a while in coordination with intelligence (we shared an office oddly enough, intel didn't like that very much). I wouldn't say I'm an expert, but without going into specifics, it really seems like a longshot to me. Besides, you know how many heavily armed, angry, rednecks we have out here? XD

Nope.
Russia wants a return to the 'Cold War' decades as it vents it's renewed power and seeks justification to be aggressive towards NATO which is but a prelude to increased antipathy towards the US as it seeks to be the number one superpower.

Well, go back and read your own words in replies and comments for other participants in the political debate, especially those critical towards Trump and Russia. You'll find your answer there. Have a nice one.

@SapphicHeart I know my own words. Why are you being so obnoxious and unreasonable? I haven't wavered from my position that we should be on good terms with Russia. I'm saying I hope we are not about to find out why I am right about the need to be on good terms with Russia. You are not making any sense at all.
@SapphicHeart Your anti logic has triggered me so badly that I have repeated the phrase, "You're not making any sense at all." 5 times!
