Let's assume that State sponsored college was a functionable and reasonable legislation...

As Bernie Sanders and his followers suggested...
In the past, it has been a reward for those who volunteered to serve in the military. So my question is:
What would you offer as a reward to those volunteers, if anything, in it's place?

Vets are 'rewarded' with a lifetime of benefits outside of education. Unless I'm mistaken I believe Vet benefits as they pertain to education varies by state. As does what's offered under the GI Bill and the many, many benefits vets receive. We easily have enough revenue to offer "free" secondary education and training to all. I personally think vets get more than enough 'breaks' and support already which aren't in place to 'thank' vets. They're there to entice people to volunteer. I guess we could go to back to the draft and create a level playing field. Wonder how many wars we'd be involved in if that was the case...

@CoxswainOtter lol? You must be lying on your profile age. I can't even imagine a grown may being such a douche. There's nothing I would debate someone like you on man. So if that's what you're looking for just fucking block me. I think I'll survive.

You can still give them the GI bill and/or cash value of education services they would have received and let them decide how to use it. Or if not that, you could sweeten the pension plan, or improve veteran's care.

@CoxswainOtter Wouldn't be a handout, it'd be compensation they earned. And yeah, they pay the universities. That's why for-profit universities like University of Phoenix flock to veterans, for their GI bills.

@CoxswainOtter It's an option. Then they can use it to start on buying a house, or invest it, or whatever they want.

At this particular moment in time, the education seems like the best offer. Mortgage rates are low, so Idk VA loans mean much. Do former military still get some preference with employment at the postal service and other fed jobs?

True but what else could you give them, what other investment? Would we give them bonds?
