I Like to Lie Outside and Watch the Stars

Yesterday, driving home from work, I saw this meteor. It was falling straight down (or what seemed like) to earth. It was going very fast, I drove down the road the get a better look. It started slowing down and as it got closer to the horizon it seemed to completely stop. I got out of my car and watched it for a while until eventually it totally disappeared. I’ve never seen one that vivid and especially not during the day. I considered it to be a lucky sign. It kinda made my day.

Just thought I’d share.

Meteors and mereorites move much too fast it to have been one of those. Typically they enter the atmosphere at speeds of 50,000 to 80,000 mph.

I suspect what you saw was a piece of space re-entering. As it got lower in the sky it would appear to slow down because you would being seeing it more and more along its direction of flight rather than transversally when it is higher in your sky.

None of this downgrades your observation and you were fortunate to see it. 😁
@Daltonico A piece of space debris?

@[StonedWitch] Probably. You have to be lucky to see it happen especially because most people never look up at the sky.
I was having an alfresco coffee at a cafe in Portugal and there was a SPECTACULAR halo around the Sun as it shone through a very thin veil of cirrus clouds. Nobody else noticed it until I pointed it out to someone and pretty soon about fifty people were gazing upwards in awe.
@Daltonico That’s awesome.😁
That's pretty cool to watch a meteorite disintegrate in the atmosphere.
@TeirdalinStarfallen Absolutely.

I don't think it was falling straight down but more likely it went from behind you to straight ahead of you which made it look like it stopped when it got far away enough, it was more likely going down at a slow rate but moving around the earth pretty fast, maybe a controlled descent? I would bet on something artificial.
@kayoshinMaybe...probably still amazing to see. Hey you...

I love it when it happens. One time late at night our car broke down near home. We stayed in our car when someone near by let off some fireworks. Quite a shock. These sightings are such a blessing.
@Alicehath Thanks, yeah they are, you’re right.

That is cool. I've never seen anything like that. It must have been pretty big to be visible during the day.

You were lucky.
@SumKindaMunster Thanks, me neither and I thought so too.
Wraithorn · 51-55, M
Wow, I don't think I've ever seen one that clearly. Especially not during the day. Lucky you are.
@Wraithorn It was my alien mother ship...it’s fetching Zuma and me.

@SW-User It didnt disintegrate i just went of view
@TJNewton Looked like it was stationary as it was leaving the atmosphere perhaps.
