I Love Jewelry

It’s tricky because jewelry is jewellery in my country. But however you spell it I love it. I’m studying jewellery at college. I’m in my second year of degree. I’ve made brooches, necklaces, rings and all the settings plus enamelling. But so far only using copper. And this week I set my first gem stone! The only silver we’ve been allowed to touch is tiny bits for soldering! Next year we are allowed to use silver.

I tried to do all of that on my own, and taught myself, for the most part. I used to find my own stones, and cut them. I used to make my own cabochons. I took one class in advanced jewelry making at the Museum School of the Boston Museum of Fine Arts, and discovered that I should have spend my money on very basic courses, like soldering, first. But we worked with sterling silver.
