Unconditional love doesn't mean you have to put up with shit. A mom may believe her murderous son deserves jail, but it doesn't mean you don't love them. The same goes with drug addicted children and parents. You still love them, but you realize sometimes they need to figure it out themselves.

@BlueVeins No. You can still love somebody if they do bad shit. Loving doesn't mean you have to like what they do. You don't have to accept it either. If love meant accepting everything the other person wanted, did, etc compromise wouldn't be needed. Again, you're thinking of toxic or obsessive love.

I think it's the opposite, in my opinion, unconditional is confused with conditional love. Conditional love sounds more like a contract as the meaning of conditional is to have requirements that need to be met. Unconditional wouldn't be a contract, conditional would be though as there are certain requirements you feel like another person has a duty to fulfill.
I think if someone ever said they wanted unconditional love but was abusive, I'd tell them that what they really wanted to be was conditional because they'd be forcing me to make a contract so that's not really unconditional.

It's usually said by a person who would prefer to be unaccountable for their actions.
