I Love Abandoned Places

How many abandoned/mostly abandoned places can you find on the one stretch of road, quite a few evidently

The Buchanan Society building, in use on the ground floor as a newsagent. Empty above that.

Former warehouse, now used on the ground floor as a shop

Former warehouse, now completely vacant after the last tenant moved out

Former tearoom, 2 stories to the front, rising to 4 stories to the rear. Empty above the ground floor.

Another former warehouse, guess that's what you get when your so close to the river, empty above the ground floor

Former leather store, now empty.

There really shouldn't be a lack of housing 馃

@TheJagsman The poorer parts of many cities have been turned into the desirable parts through such development. You only have to look at most docklands as an example.

@TheConstantGardener I don't doubt it, but seemingly the east end of Glasgow is a very low priority for the city council. Other than Dalmarnock where the 2014 commonwealth games were hosted, spent no end of time cleaning that up for the cameras.

@TheJagsman Beautiful facades on some of those buildings. Pity that they're going to waste. 馃槙

what is the cause; do you know ?

@revenant They are old buildings and money hasn't gone into them. A few of the ones pictured sit within a site that used to be filled with abandoned buildings. Mainly occupied till the early 90s by two large department stores.

A company named selfridges bought the site in the early 2000s and kept saying they'd build a store there but it never happened and the site was sold, twice since. A lot of the buildings on the site were demolished in 2013. Though now its expected something might actually happen once planning permission is granted.

@TheJagsman I hope they do not turn them into condos.
