I’m Officially Out of the Closet

I was so deep in the closet, I didn’t even know I was in a closet. I started questioning last Thursday and realized I’m bisexual on Monday. I’ve come out to my friends and sister. I plan to come out to the GSA Club tomorrow at my school. I originally joined as an ally. I feel so much more confident and have less mental health issues because of this realization. I’m frustrated, though, because coming out to any of my other family members would only cause confrontation and confusion. I’m a married adult, but I don’t want to cause tension or distance with my family because we just started connecting better recently.

I don’t think you should have to announce it these days. I feel like people want a party and Diana ross’s “I’m coming out” song playing. Since when do we have to express whether we are straight or one of these dumb something sexuals that’s the latest craze.

I don’t want a full party or anything crazy special either. I just want to be able to be comfortable with myself without having to hold things back. It’s more of a discussion than an announcement for me. @Keepitsimple

I was 24 when I realized that I wasn’t straight, and a few years older than that when I determined that I was bisexual. In those days, you really didn’t come out....and I’m still in the closet to most people I know offline.

If you intend to act upon your newly admitted preferences ... odds are your husband isn’t going to be on board ... be careful !

He actually knew before I did. He helped me realize it. He’s fine with me being attracted to both sexes. He came out to me last month as asexual. We don’t plan on me experimenting with girls. I just am happy with understanding myself better. @TexChik

Seems like you’ve got a great support system starting with your husband . You’re a lucky woman .

How could you? Thought you were coming out as an exhibitionist.

I'm not sure why the whole coming out thing is so important. I never came out to everyone to say I was straight. Does your husband know?? That should be enough if it were me I would think.
Bluesugar93 · 26-30, F
My husband knew before me and helped me figure it out. He’s very supportive. He’s asexual. The only reason I would want to come out is so that I’m not pretending to be someone I’m not. I would also want my family to know why I’m doing better now than I was before. I know that no one really needs to know, though. @Dainbramadge

It is a good thing that your husband is very supportive.

All this in 4-5 days?
Bluesugar93 · 26-30, F
Yes, it’s been a roller coaster of a week :) I’ve always thought about women sexually before, but I thought that was normal for all straight women until Monday. @Graylight

@Bluesugar93 Just take it slowly. This is a big deal for both you and those you know.

That said, congratulations for having the courage to simply be who you are. I hope your greatest desires are fulfilled.
