The two Nigerian brothers arrested in connection with the assault on "Empire" actor Jussie Smollett are no longer suspects in the attack. They're now cooperating with police.

A source close to the investigation confirms to CBS News the brothers told detectives Smollett paid them to participate in the alleged attack on January 29 and that they purchased the rope — which was found around Smollett's neck — at a nearby hardware store. The source said detectives have evidence to corroborate the sale, something the men's attorney alluded to Friday night.

So many are too quick to make judgements on no more than a hint. In this atmosphere, truth is buried beneath inuendo and hype. If you dont listen, read or think for yourself, you end up a tool. I use tools, i refuse to be one.

@bijouxbroussard Inasmuch as leftists were the only ones who raised hell about it in the initial stages (rightists stepped in later with the obligatory virtue signalling), it was political WAY before I asked.

In any case, what gets me is how fast people--but leftists in particular--allow themselves to be duped by moral panics over and over again.

@Theseus Probably because hate crimes [b]have[/b] increased exponentially in the last couple of years, and we have a president who thinks protesting [b]against[/b] racism is no more valid than marching for white supremacy—ie,“fine people on [b]both[/b] sides”.
But I can honestly say I read the initial complaint and [b]actually[/b] thought, “I hate that I hope this is [b]real[/b] because the last thing we need is bullsh*t to muddy the waters further”.
It’s comparable to when Susan Smith, Charles Stuart and various others blamed phantom black men. They turned out to be lying, but you may recall conservatives jumped on [b]that[/b], both because it could’ve been true and it fit what they already believed.

@DarkMoon Here's the thing: in my late teens I was mugged for "being gay." I wasn't, but my muggers thought I was, and they didn't bother asking first.

So you can see my perspective is a little different than most. I'm unapologetically cis/hetero, but I'm a bit more sensitive to the plight of LGBT people than one would expect.

That said, I've also been falsely accused, and thus DON'T see the logic in automatically believing an accuser.

@Theseus Actually it came out on video the Covington students were yelling at people walking by and being rowdy.

One of them is on tape saying "how is it rape if you enjoy it."

There's a lot of things the camera clearly didn't capture so yeah they are def. just as guilty.
