This question is only for the LGBTQ+ community. How did you guys/girls come out to your family?

I have been searching for help for ages. I have already told my mother but I don't think she believes me or just doesn't care. As for my father I know he will be very close minded about this stuff so I didn't bother telling him yet. But now I just want to make my move and get it over with and finally achieve happiness

I just kind of mentioned to my mom that I was bi but I’m neither out to nor hiding it from the rest of my family.
Both of my kids are out, and they handled it similarly. My daughter struggled with finding the right time to tell me and ended up just blurting it out. My son came out to me over dinner while we were on vacation.

@summersong are your children bi?
summersong · F
@ShatteredHeart it can be really difficult, especially in families that aren’t LGBTQ+ tolerant or supportive. You’re already living with courage though, every day, regardless of when/how you tell them 🤗

@summersong Thank you so much 🤗

I never sat them down and told them, I just never hid it either.
ShatteredHeart · 22-25, T
@Straylight I can't see why he's so close minded..
Straylight · 31-35, F
@ShatteredHeart And even if he does react poorly, keep in mind that he may just need time to adjust
ShatteredHeart · 22-25, T
@Straylight My mother would probably be the only person who could help him accept it with time.

They knew before I did. They used to make little comments about me liking women (I like men and women) until I responded, “Yeah, probably.” They stopped talking and I don’t tell them about anything.

@SW-User I see. My mothers only assumed that I might be gay...she's still pretty far off
DragonFruit · 61-69, M
My parents are both deceased and I never told them when they were alive. My father probably never had any idea, but I think my mother might have suspected.
Those were different times. My niece is out, and some years ago she brought her then-girlfriend (now wife of 10 years) to a family party. She did tell my sister (her mother), who told her that she just wanted her to be happy.
I’m still not out in my life offline, as I’m married to a woman and most people think I’m straight (I’m bisexual).
ShatteredHeart · 22-25, T
@DragonFruit My parents still have a while left..I think my mother knows just doesn't talk about it, and my father is completely oblivious to my situation

I haven’t.. they still think I’m thier little shy innocent heterosexual virgin

I never really told them, they just kinda knew somehow?

I never came out. My hometown was in the Bible Belt, and no one would understand. Back then, it was best to keep these things quiet. I still do, but my family is gone by now. Myself, I've felt no ill effects from it and see no need to announce it. Some people do feel the need. Whatever works for you.

I am never planning to come out to them. They'd both react horribly :).

@Littlelegskate hmm are your parents super religious and constantly looking down and making fun of the gay community? Then saying things like they are morally depraved and disgusting?

If no, would you come out to that?
Littlelegskate · 26-30, F
@SW-User yes they’re strictly catholic. They’re not nice people in general, any excuse to look down on someone and they’ll take it using their religion as justification for their abuse. Always hiding behind their damn bible and quoting their scriptures while smirking behind a tumbler of whisky
SW-User
@Littlelegskate then kudos to you, you are brave. :| yeah I feel the same about mine. Still love them, just not this part of them.

My mum found my HRT pills and medical letters, she asked me to explain myself, so I did.
Angelboy2455 · 18-21, M
I just came out and said Mom and Dad I'm gay and a sissy boy
