okay guys, lets get serious, how many genders are there really?

lets end this debate once and for all
Bumbles · 51-55, M
I've been preparing this response since you asked six years ago; I don't fucking care.

@HoraceGreenley 2+2 will never equal 5, my friend.
HoraceGreenley · 56-60, M
@Graylight what?
nedkelly · 61-69, M
Simple Answer - MALE or FEMALE
nedkelly · 61-69, M
@Graylight I work on the common sense value - male or female born
NorthernRoses · 22-25, F
@nedkelly Yeah, you're wrong. You're not distinguishing Sex from Gender, and even if they were the same, you'd still be wrong, due to the existence of Intersex people.
Graylight · 51-55, F
@nedkelly Common sense, no. Personal opinion is the angle you're working. Binary gender isn't even recognized by some Native American tribes in the US, much less all across the globe. It may be what you grew up with, but it's objectively false information.
Two sexes. many genders. The sex you were born has to do with the reproductive system you have. Gender has nothing to do with reproduction. Sex is below the waist, gender above. The mistake many make is that gender and sex mean the same. They do not.

From wiki

Gender is the range of characteristics pertaining to, and differentiating between, masculinity and femininity. Depending on the context, these characteristics may include biological sex (i.e. the state of being male, female or an intersex variation which may complicate sex assignment), sex-based social structures (including gender roles and other social roles), or gender identity.[1][2][3] Some cultures have specific gender roles that can be considered distinct from male and female, such as the hijra (chhaka) of India and Pakistan.

Sexologist John Money introduced the terminological distinction between biological sex and gender as a role in 1955. Before his work, it was uncommon to use the word gender to refer to anything but grammatical categories.[1][2] However, Money's meaning of the word did not become widespread until the 1970s, when feminist theory embraced the concept of a distinction between biological sex and the social construct of gender. Today the distinction is strictly followed in some contexts, especially the social sciences[4][5] and documents written by the World Health Organization (WHO).[3]

i just respect it.

just 2. everything else is man made.
SW-User
wheres what? there is only male and female.. look at nature.. there all that it is.. hermphodites have both genetics of a male and genetics of a female because of mutations. its not a gender.

@SW-User Not according to science.

Serious talk for a Friday night. I'm going out tonight to pick up guys, but for good measure, will try and pick up every gender type and will report back 😂

Seems like 2 is the consensus and the others are bullshit made up freaks. Mentally ill people.

@Emosaur So you want to replace a social construct with a social construct.
Biologically, XX is female, XY is male, but there are variants. For example, how do you classify XXY...aka hermaphrodite or intersex...someone who is born with both genitalia? There are other genetic variants as well.

Pyschologically, fugeddaboutit! Let's not go there.
SW-User
@BizSuitStacy there is only two, xxy is a mutation. a genetic outlier from the normal xx xy genetic code.
@SW-User all you are saying is that an XXY falls outside the normal spectrum...to which I've said, I agree it falls outside the normal spectrum. But, just because it's unusual, doesn't mean it gets excluded from the "how many genders" discussion.
SW-User
@BizSuitStacy its not a real gender. its a mutation.
@SW-User Based on your logic we should dismiss it simply because it's rare. It's not an exercise in statistical sampling, nor are we talking about feel good psychology. It's not cut and dry. Even geneticists have struggled with this question.
SW-User
clearly i do.. you need a refresher coarse since you took it so long ago.
@SW-User maybe you should go back to counting your pills...just remember not to include the mutants
SW-User
you cant count mutations as a gender.. i think maybe you flunked basic biology.
tombailey · 51-55, M
Although a person's sex as male or female stands as a biological fact that is identical in any culture, what that specific sex means in reference to a person's gender role as a woman or a man in society varies cross culturally according to what things are considered to be masculine or feminine.
Tatsumi · 31-35, M
2. Male and female.

people be surprised how many natural genders are out there in all the animal kingdoms incl. human.
HoraceGreenley · 56-60, M
@sighmeupforthat Excuse me? Dude, I have a degree in Biology. In higher animals there are two sexes.
SW-User
@sighmeupforthat i also have a degree in biological sciences and agree with horace there is only 2
sighmeupforthat · 46-50, M
5 so far.. though hermaphrodites or.. wtf is it now intersexed are considered mutants and not a gender?

WTF is up with that bullshit?
Graylight · 51-55, F
@sighmeupforthat Even a chromosomal mutation creates another gender; the two aren't exclusive. A vegetable can be the result of mutagenesis, but it's still a vegetable.

Five, including Richard Simmons.

@LyricalOne you mean 5/63?

lmfao!

2 or 3, if you'd include both genitals as one gender.
