I Am Seeking Inner Peace

With no emotional support, a woman can lose their glow, have dark sunken circles under her eyes and drags her feet slowly with a heavy slouch. Her hair thin and brittle and she seemed to be stripped off her soul and spirit. That is what I saw in my friend this evening. Then she walked off dejectedly because her son refused to get home from the playground. Her son started crying and refused to move. She kept walking but turned a few times to signal him to come over. She seemed to lost all strength to fight nor argue with her son. But as mothers always are, she turns again to check if he is coming along.

Whilst all these were happening, her husband walks ahead, head casted down, eyes hooked on his phone, playing some game. I am an observer at the playground. And this man has been doing this every single day. Not once has he ever looked up to smile and see his son playing.

I could be her. I could have been her if I stayed longer.

But I am at a better place now. I packed my laptop and books and walked over to coddle her son to move along.

I feel bad for her. But so very glad I am not her anymore.

I'm sorry for your friend. Being a mother seems to always be an enormous drain on energy, but having to carry that and also the feeling of being ignored & unimportant, from someone who's meant to support you? that must be devastating beyond words.

I even feel sorry, distantly, for her husband, letting his life slip through his hands like that, to retreat from the real into ephemera.
