I Do Not Support Gun Control

I consider myself a left-leaning moderate but my opposition to gun control is probably the most conservative view I have. Even though I don't like guns, I support people's rights to own them and don't believe gun control laws have ever really worked.
Some data that backs your point:

90% of those who use a firearm to commit a homicide have at least 1 felony on their record. The average is 4 felonies. It's already against the law for a felon to have a firearm in their possession. It's unknown as to how many other gun laws were violated before the perp pulled the trigger, but it's safe to assume that possession of a firearm wasn't the only one.

90% of the gun violence in the US occurs within the inner cities where gangs and drugs are quite prevalent. Here again, firearm violence is closely tied to those with a violent criminal history.

There are thousands of gun laws on the books already. You could double, triple, the number, etc. and it will not have an effect on the 2 key stats above.

This is the elephant in the room no politician wants to address.

@BizSuitStacy So very true.

If you don't agree, that's fine but I'm not going to debate it. Just voicing my stance on the topic.

They generally work very well in many modern western countries

@Dlrannie OK. Well most of America is still the "frontier." There's lots of it between NY and LA.

@Ellen I appreciate that America is a large country but I've not heard of Indians on the warpath, range wars or shootouts at the OK Corral in recent times.

@Dlrannie Cute. But most of America is still wilderness, particularly out west. For example, go 30 miles or so outside Phoenix and you're in the middle of nowhere. People have guns for protection. And whether they actually ever need them or not, they provide a level of comfort.

If you take the city of Chicago, the city with some of the strictest gun laws in the country, there have been over 400 murders so far this year with about 85% of them as a result of shootings. The point that should be taken is the city with the strictest gun laws has the most murders in the country. Criminals do not follow the law, including gun laws. Law abiding citizens need to be able to protect themselves from the criminals. People always want to blame the gun when someone is killed, however gun control advocates never blame the person who pulled the trigger. If we completely eliminated guns, murder would still happen. It would just be by a different weapon. Knives, machetes, etc. People who want to kill will kill. Just my two cents.

I have a difficult time with this one. Basically I do support the right of law abiding citizens to own guns. I don't think registration or licensure interferes with this right. But.... I'm real wishy washy on both sides of this issue.

I’m a moderate as well, more socially liberal & more fiscally conservative. I also am in favor of the right to bear arms, but believe that gun laws should be enforced more heavily with regard to owner qualification to own a gun and less heavily on restricting the type of gun involved or the number of guns sold.

I am afraid of guns. I think everyone should be. I do not have any in my house. That said, I agree with you.

I am not the biggest fan of conceal carry but I agree with you about ownership of guns.
