I Am a Thinker

Anyone here read "the Pagan Christ"?
Picklebobble2 · 56-60, M
I've read it.
Basic premise is a good one but I think he gets kinda sidetracked from the original question to poking a stick at religion.
Which in itself is worth doing !
I mean more folk have been put to death because of belief or non belief in a religion than ever did because they said they believed in Christ !
Picklebobble2 · 56-60, M
@Summersrain Which some will translate as 'Do what those leading you in your faith tell you to do'.
Then you get into a lot of human history from the Crusades on !

@Picklebobble2 and so much of it is fear based too
Picklebobble2 · 56-60, M
@Summersrain 'Believe what we say or suffer the consequences of our belief!'

No, but I came across the central idea and explored the central thesis and supporting presuppositions. I think he had a website. I found it rather weak.

To begin with the evidence for the existence of Jesus of Nazareth is very significant - whatever you make of his claims. This is symptomatic of Harpur's lack of academic rigour in his rush to support his theory. There were all kinds of leaps of logic in terms of cross-influences that didn't fit with what we know.

That's my recollection of it.

What is it about?
Summersrain · 51-55, F
@Tastyfrzz I think the moral lessons in the bible are real, but the stories may well be fiction. That Christ dwells within each of us as a potential. Basically I agree with the author.
Tastyfrzz · 61-69, M
The big question is whether you think he was in fact a deity or if it is just the lessons that matter.
Summersrain · 51-55, F
@Tastyfrzz I think he is the spirit of god, whether or not he actually walked the earth as a man is another matter

No and would not read the nonsense written by some heretic
Tastyfrzz · 61-69, M
@SW-User I used to think that but as I've read more I've been able to work through the B.S. and find what I believe is the true basis of teligion which is that God is not a fearsome separate entity but is one with us. There is no true "religion". You need to discover what you believe is to be true. Don't let someone else tell you what to believe about God.

@Tastyfrzz one of us?
Just a slob like one of us?
Tastyfrzz · 61-69, M
@GeniUs God is you and you and everything else is part of God.

Maybe some day, but probably not. ....:)
