We know that there have been countless requests and reminders for us to have an [b]App developed for Similar Worlds[/b].

We'd like to let you know that [u]we do pay attention to your requests, and we are not ignoring or avoiding the development of a SW App[/u].

A native App however, takes a tremendous amount of time, work and resources to develop (more specifically, an app for a website like Similar Worlds).

Other companies would usually have a team of people dedicated to developing an app for an existing website.

As many of you may know by now, Similar Worlds is being developed by only 2 individuals, both of whom have other full-time commitments (job and managing businesses).

Also as some may notice, this website still has a lot of development pending (we only finally released Photo Albums a week ago).

This makes it quite difficult to focus a lot of time on speedily developing an App while the Website is still in an incomplete form.

That being said... [b]we do still very much want to make an App for Similar Worlds, hopefully soon[/b], especially because this is what a large portion of our members want.

[u]The question we would like to ask all members is:[/u]

We ask this so we can know how to best provide for our members the particular features or experiences they feel they are lacking.

Also, by the time the app is released, having used this information, we should be able to fulfill all or most of the needs of our App users.


We will leave several poll answers to choose from.
Please select those which are most important to you.

Also, since we may have left out several important answers from the poll, please do suggest in the comments, other reasons why you would like to have a SW App made (we may consider including those reasons to our Poll).

Hi Guys ... First, a moment to say thanks for putting all this together. What you've done in such a short time is just amazing, especially considering this is a part-time gig for you both.

I'm fairly active on various social platforms, both large and small. I have to say that the mobile browser experience with SW is among the best. It actually "feels" like an app.

Given how well you're doing with the site and the features you still have left, I would prefer that the focus remain with the site, but I am aware that I am swimming against the stream here. Everyone wants and app, so you need to deliver an app. I get it.

It seems a theme is developing in your poll above. It could be reasoned that instant notifications, live chat, and better performance are all variations of one theme. Those who use private messages today as a form of instant chat want instant notifications and faster performance. (Those of us who use it as a private email system for "penpal" relationships are less concerned with this.)

So maybe the app should really be just an SW Chat app? Perhaps it should be completely separate from the website private message system? This way, users who are here for the instant chat function would have a dedicated system for this and it would not cause a flood of new private messages to users who are not here for "chat". Just a thought...

Personally, I do not want a SW app. Bringing out an app is what destroyed EP, don't start repeating their mistakes. SW is still fresh and it's been a great website so far, but that'll change if an app is brought out; that's when all the spammers, scammers and trolls come, because it's so convenient for them on their phone to do. Focus on completing this site and making it even more great, forget the app.

@maybesomeday: i dont think the app had anything to do with it. It was the people on the app. But again like here if someone bugs you, You do have a Block button just like everyone else

@YJTurner: The app attracted those people. It's much more convenient to find on their phone, than to go on a computer and find the website. Blocking only solved so much. In the end, it was pointless, and the website/app as a whole failed.

@maybesomeday: i used both when i got on ep but i was only on ep for a few months when it closed then i joined sw i use my phone and i think it is just as easy as a app myself but i guess its just the way i was showed how to use it idk but it all works good to me. I have many on my block list here just like i did on ep i think there are just ones out there that are jerks no matter what, and we just need to block them and do what we can to report the bad ones and get them removed to filter out the junk.

i use sw like an app on my phone already, with the icon saved on my home screen. It loads quickly and honestly, it feels like an app. The ep app seemed to be part of its demise. I dont want that to happen again.

I'd just get this website fully operational and working the way you want it first. The app can come later after this site is working well and has everything you want it to have. People can wait for the app to be honest.

@Gentle153: hitting the back button on Android takes you not to where you left off but to the top of queue. Meaning you have to go through all the questions again before finding where you were. It's ok only if you guys expect us to focus only of the most recent questions.

@emanresu: This was the case before, but remembering the position on the page was implemented a few weeks ago. If you click a question or story on the homepage, it will return to that when you hit the back button. (Well, sometimes one or two items up, but you'll get back very close to where you left off.)

Just bring sw up in ur browser then add that shorcut to desktop. Done.
