🏠️ "Home" is where all the Posts are

Hi everyone, 🖐️

Similar World's new place for Posts is the "Home" tab.

[c=#BF0000]We believe we have finished our changes to the design, and we apologize for any inconveniences that this caused to some of our members.[/c]

These changes to the design will help us considerably in consolidating the Groups and organize them better. Those coming changes will not affect the user interface.

In addition, we have made it much easier to switch between Filters for the Feeds.
With just one click/tap, you can filter Posts by the Groups you follow, or by the Members/Friends you follow:

---

You can customize your Posts Feed by going to Home and press the "Customize Feed" button:

You can then select whether you want to include comments, and how much relevancy:

---

Thank you for your support and we hope you continue to stay with us.

We are constantly listening to your suggestions, so please keep giving them to us, as they are very important to the future of Similar Worlds.

Very kind regards, 🧡
- The SW Team

-"Home is where all the posts are"-

Ok... I get that. But why does the same post have to run 3 or 4 times on that same floor? It's so irritating because as we scroll down bumping into the same post over and over because someone replied to it.... then another comment,,ok we keep scrolling. Then coming across the original post...
The most nettling issue, though , is scrolling to the bottom of the page to recent activities and guess what? Yes! Again 3 more times,,that dam post! Nuno? Honestly- are you guys just trying to fill in space? It's too much. Feels like I'm caught in a swirling tornado seeing the same post multiple times crossing my screen... sometimes there's 2 or 3 other posts doing the same thing...
Shit I'm getting dizzy just explaining it... I gotta sit down. Wait... I am sitting down... whoooah---
Nuno · Admin
@Luvbuttz Hello. Thank you for your feedback. We can definitely look into reducing the number of times the same post can appear. However, if you wish, you can also stop the Comments from appearing between posts by pressing the Customize Feed button and select "Do not include any comments".

Luvbuttz · M
@Nuno thanks for that... Nuno.
You da man!
Yulianna · 22-25, F
sorry, but i thought the whole point of this site was specifically not to be like all those others.

who wanted this change? was there a groundswell of demand from users?

or was this a decision driven by the desire to mirror other sites in the hope of monetising the members?

we will get used to it. but the site has become less user friendly.

so who has benefited from this change?
Yulianna · 22-25, F
@Miram i don't think this change is a reaction to user demand...
Miram · 31-35, F
@Yulianna

After a little digging, I found it they are doing it as step in this

https://similarworlds.com/100-Admin-Announcements/2149687-SW-Group-Category-Re-Structuring-Feedback

They recently mentioned it again here

https://similarworlds.com/100-Admin-Announcements/3432517-Clarification-on-Group-Post-Changes

The goal was asked for by some users, the how wasn't discussed until now.
SW-User
@Yulianna it’s not
This would have been at the very bottom of my suggestion list to make “improvements”
BlueVeins · 22-25
Could you guys please replace the 'Home' tab with like, a 'Comments' tab or something? You say I have the option to filter out comments in my home feed to effectively turn it into the old 'posts' feed. Totally cool. But now, I don't have my old home feed unless I go through the options and change it back. I normally like to go through the 'posts' feed when I first log on to see interesting new stories 'n' shit, and then visit the 'home' feed to see my friends' comments, and I could do that with the click of a button. Now, I have to change my settings to switch from one to the other.

You could reasonably argue that that's a petty concern, and changing my settings is only like 3 clicks. And you know what? That's totally fair. But right now, what you have is two buttons right beside each other in the UI that do literally the exact same thing. The site has the exact same number of buttons and menus as it did yesterday if I remember correctly, with just a little less functionality.

Meanwhile, I've never even seen someone say they like the 'people' tab, and damn, can you blame 'em? It's just a big, long list of usernames, ages, and pictures in three columns, in what appears to be a random order. No bios, no log-in times, no interests, nothing whatsoever that could possibly make that tab a good way to browse users to befriend. Just sayin'.
Nuno · Admin
@BlueVeins We have loads of users who use the People tab all the time. If we were going to remove the People tab, even more people would complain. We should leave the People tab alone :)

Thanks for your feedback regarding the Comments in the Feed.
If you had a 1-click quick switch for Showing/Hiding Comments in the Feed, would that be enough?
BlueVeins · 22-25
@Nuno Yep.
revenant · F
You do not explain why you have to follow other websites.
Nuno · Admin
@MartinTheFirst We didn't remove any posts or comments of users arguing about these changes.
I've reached the limit for editing posts so I can't fix my Spelling mistakes. Thanks for that "feature".
MartinTheFirst · 22-25, M
@Nuno That's true, only the banning of certain words that refer to blocking certain adverts.
revenant · F
Moonpenny · F
But we're not Facebook and Co. or are we becoming like these sites? It seems so which is incredibly sad.

I think most of us appreciate and choose this site, to the exclusion of others (in my case total exclusion) because it was unique and user-friendly, and I use was, since I don't feel it's changing for the better.

You have a solid following of members here, many of whom came over from EP and quite a few who promote good will and who are well-liked and respected in the SW community. In the last few months even, I have seen quite a few of these people delete their accounts, which assumedly indicates that things are not changing for the better.

You are asking members what we want but you don't seem to be acting upon our requests. It reminds me of being at work when you're asked to put forward your opinions but you know management have already made up their minds 🤷🏼‍♀️

Please listen to your members,, especially your loyal ones, without whom you would not have this unique site at all. We're here for many different reasons and most of us cherish our friendships on here. Please honour that and in turn, appreciate our support.
Nuno · Admin
@Moonpenny Absolutely! Really appreciate the explanation :)
Moonpenny · F
@Nuno You're most welcome!

Then you might as well remove the little SW icon animation that turns into a house. Currently you have two "home" buttons

You have no clue how to design a website guys... these changes are so uninspired.
@MartinTheFirst It's actually useful. When you're scrolling down through posts the "home" button disappears but the icon is always visible. In this way you don't have to scroll all the way back to the top of the page to click home.
MartinTheFirst · 22-25, M
@midnightrose That might be the case on mobiles but I'm on a computer, it doesnt disappear for computers. Also you cant see the animation on a phone..

Thanks Nuno. I don’t think you’ll lose anyone because of the changes. 😇
Miram · 31-35, F
For everyone wondering about the goal of these changes. I had to go back and read announcements.

https://similarworlds.com/100-Admin-Announcements/3432517-Clarification-on-Group-Post-Changes

Not sure, but I think moving all tabs to Home wasn't done to imitate other social medias.

It is just the way they chose to achieve more organized group structure. It is not the goal, it is the means.

In the past, the same topic had many groups. It is redundant.

These groups are all imported from EP. Some of these groups are illegal or highly inappropriate. Which is why many of questionable new members would justify their content by "if it"s group in this website then it's fine to post about it"

This seems to be just a step to limit and manage groups.
Paintedfox · 36-40, F
Followers... It's annoying. I come here because I don't want to deal with the unavoidable annoying people and settings of all the "popular" sites.
[c=#359E00]geez.. don't lose identity for the sake of following msinstream website. I always thought we are different[/c]
Thank you for your support and we hope you continue to stay with us.
Based on what I’m hearing, you better change it back! Glad I didn’t overpay for VIP to this site.
Peaches · F
@SensitiveCha0s I would pay but I have too many hackers!🙄
Miram · 31-35, F
What users really asked for is the ability to block groups and some question types like politics or religion

Was this Incorporated in this final layout? I think I saw it being mentioned as the goal in your last update announcement.
pentacorn · F
@Nuno dream come true. can’t wait to block politics. 😊
Miram · 31-35, F
@pentacorn 😄
Miram · 31-35, F
@Nuno thanks and have great day too
LadyBronte · 56-60, F
I have always enjoyed perusing only questions or only stories as the mood struck. Now I can't do that. I also see random comments on the feed mixed in with the stories and questions which seem to create more static in the mix. Sorry, but I am not a fan of these new changes.
Nuno · Admin
@LadyBronte Thank you for your feedback.

As for the comments,
You can customize your Posts Feed by going to Home and press the "Customize Feed" button:

You can then select whether you want to include comments, and how much relevancy:

LadyBronte · 56-60, F
@Nuno Thanks. I realize there are some who will love the changes. Perhaps I am old school.

SW-User
Can we have cinfessions back then?
SW-User
Funny how many here dislike Facebook but applaud SW for becoming more like Facebook.

At least Facebook helps me discover new groups and stories. Can't say it is like that here now.
@SW-User taking steps backward just like EP did
MeisterAndrew · 41-45, M
@SW-User Funny thing is there's been so many suggestions to make it unique and unlike facebook but we get all these other changes.
RubySoo · 56-60, F
Im still not a fan of 'groups' as they are. I think 'catagories' a better option...and may be groups within catagories.

When i post now...do those posts get attatched to groups? Or do they 'float' like when we asked questions??
Miram · 31-35, F
@RubySoo They are attached to groups you choose and you can access them there.
SW-User
I was not happy with bunching stories and posts together. But I sorta understood that. But adding comments and all posts together?? Nah fan. It would be nice if home could be further customized, to where we could take off the comments.

Edit: nevermind! I found the option to take off comments!
Miram · 31-35, F
@SW-User Yeah, they were saved. The replies were included. They changed it just now after we commented on it.
Nuno · Admin
@Miram Did you select "Do not include any comments" under "Customize Feed"?
Miram · 31-35, F
@Nuno Yeah I have, and I refreshed many times but after HannibalAteMeOut and Onestarrynight commenting to you, it finally changed.
DeWayfarer · 61-69, M
Not a fan. Note I did your pole on stores and this merging is more of hindrance than a help for the time being.

I do write prose and some stories.

I know you mentioned somewhere that we maybe able to do further select groups. Yet your not giving a time table on any of these changes much less on such group filtering. Yet even that really isn't enough. We need true "multiple" custom feeds like on Reddit.

I still have over 3100 groups after the group reduction!

Just my opinion.
Miram · 31-35, F
@DeWayfarer
And I am certain that's what you are after.
Don't make accusations when you can't handle the same. You brought this up because you are obsessed about it.

Fanaticism is when you stop at nothing to achieve your goals, which is basically what you do. You go to the extent of disguising immoral acts under a moral argument, censorship.

And if you were really into freedom of speech and not censoring, you wouldn't be asking me to block. You would handle my arguments just fine.

You are all for freedom of speech until someone disagrees with you.
DeWayfarer · 61-69, M
@Miram I haven't block you Mrs accuser! That would be
censorship of you!

Once again have a good night! Further comments on this by you will be ignored. 🤷‍♂️
Miram · 31-35, F
@DeWayfarer

Oh another edit.
And you have falsely accused several.
I don't remember you being an admin. So this is very confusing, you don't review my report about the posts to actually claim they were false.

And you have been attacking me for not wanting child pornography in this website for while. And attacking those who had similar opinions.

Since you were so eager here to attack me and call me names, you will have to cope with responses to it regardless of your fake good nights.
Ingwe · F
Move people and groups to the right of

search similar worlds

the bar isn't user friendly
Ingwe · F
it is
Home /Groups/ People /Search Similar Worlds
like that

make it

Home/ search similar worlds / groups/ people
Why make it like that? @Ingwe
Ingwe · F
@Spoiledbrat when you look at the bar
the white seach catches the eye
home on the left would we easily picked out
we all want to go there most of the time

it is like shelving in a store
selecting what goes where to pull the hand towards a product without much thought

@Peaches Oh no! you?

@SW-User They have been following me everywhere for almost ten years now. They are from Pakistan and India. They act so very nice, but they aren't!😠 They can screw with the settings here AND my posts!👎🏽

Looks fine to me.

Can I request we tweak the People heading to People? instead. I have my doubts about some of them
Ksmile14 · F
Idk if you can...but if you can you might wanna pin this to the top so everyone sees it when they come in.
TheCoolestCat · 31-35, M
hate the new change, just got used to the old one and now you bugger it up again lol
DCarey · 46-50, M
We came here to get away from Twatter and Fakebook.
Nuno · Admin
@DCarey We're not becoming like them anyway. We're just following a standard that pretty much EVERY other social website follows.
Peaches · F
@DCarey LOL! 😄
Really?
It lumps the new posts in with replies, which makes for a terrible layout!

Please change it back because this makes using the site a real pain in the rear end.
Nuno · Admin
@FairyGirlGemma I understand, but like I said, it helps keeping the same standard every other website uses. Helps us (and future members) in the long term, because of the consistency.
TheCoolestCat · 31-35, M
@Nuno imo this is a dumb ass change
SW-User
@FairyGirlGemma they’re not going to change it back unfortunately Fairy.
I truly question how much they listen to our requests.
Hence why I don’t contribute when they come out every so often and ask for site suggestions
Jeffrey53 · 51-55, M
Looks fine to me. I don’t see any problems with the changes
HannibalAteMeOut · 22-25, F
That's cool but I don't get why we have to see replies to random posts on the feed.
Miram · 31-35, F
@HannibalAteMeOut Did it change for you too?
HannibalAteMeOut · 22-25, F
@Nuno οh right, it's done now! Thanks!
HannibalAteMeOut · 22-25, F
@Miram yes, now I don't see any!
JoyfulSilence · 46-50, M
The group search only shows a pull down list with ONLY 10 groups, rather than the pages and pages of groups it did before.

So I rarely can find a group I want. So I have just started choosing the group "I Groups" as a default, and using the Title to convey the meaning of my post.
JoyfulSilence · 46-50, M
@Nuno Cool! Thanks.

I know how hard this stuff is.

I am a mathematician but most of my workdays are spent writing SAS code to test out the math. My code always has bugs and I spend more time debugging than drafting the initial code. I also write system requirements for our IT folks. It is so hard to put formulas and procedures into words. It is usually easier to just write the code myself, but that is not my job. Sometimes I also validate the systems by creating my own SAS code or else use Excel files (often with Visual Basic code) to do the calculations independently.
Nuno · Admin
@JoyfulSilence This improvement is now released.
JoyfulSilence · 46-50, M
@Nuno YAY!
MeisterAndrew · 41-45, M
And we still have to stare at a bunch of removed comments 🙄
DeWayfarer · 61-69, M
@Peaches because incase not all comments are necessarily removed others can still reply to a reply.

I actually understand that one. Only if "everything" is removed should it be left out.

Also I suspect deleted comments and posts also have something to do with the rating system here. Whether it's by the poster or the commentor depending on the greater rating.

They don't want to talk about this. So expect no reply to this whole thread.

The rating system is "top secret". 😅
Peaches · F
@DeWayfarer Oh really?🤔Well I sometimes delete posts if I feel it offended someone, or if they don't reply.
DeWayfarer · 61-69, M
@Peaches it all depends on your current rating. If you're a good standing member, and I believe you are, then it's not going to effect it much. What exactly the formula is though is a secret. Other things probably effect the rating. Probably how many over all posts, replies and things like that.
Peaches · F
I don't know WHY questions and stories have merged together, I found it better the way it was?!🤔 And for some reason I can no longer see the "click to go back" arrow at the top of my browser, the "click to go forward" arrow, or the "home page" icon. The only thing that is showing for me is the "reload this page" arrow/icon. Can anyone help?
SW-User
@Peaches Hmmm well I'm not sure then... you need a nerd. 😁
MeisterAndrew · 41-45, M
@Peaches That sounds weird. The design shouldn't influence how your browser behaves.
Peaches · F
@MeisterAndrew Okay, that's what I thought...it's my hackers again then.🙄
pentacorn · F
yay! now i'm way more likely to see posts by my circle of friends, even if they were posted several hours ago.

i know y'all will get a lot of flack over the change, but i like it!
BlueRain · F
Thank you for your help to SW. I am sorry some people don’t appreciate this site like they should. Some always need something to complain about.
Peaches · F
@BlueRain You're RIGHT...but I DO appreciate this site and the hard workers that run it!⭐️
SW-User
JoyfulSilence · 46-50, M
Toggling between the new feed buttons does not update the old "Customize Feed" menu.

But changing something with the Customize Feed menu updates which of the new buttons is highlighted.

Also, the back button fails when you use the new feed buttons. For example, suppose I am viewing my circle feed and click the new everyone button. It updates the feed showing everyone. Suppose I click a story. When I hit the back button it goes to the circle feed, not the everyone feed.
Peppa · 31-35, F
I'm not gonna lie the amount of times I pressed 'people' trying to get to 'posts' was well annoying.
Hopefully this'll be better.
OfflineFriend · 22-25
It’s to simplify, to much , and making new posts feels like it takes more clicks
MartinTheFirst · 22-25, M
Nuno I have a burning question. You've claimed that if you were to sell or merge this website then you would give us the option to "delete our accounts". However "deleting" ones account on this site doesn't equate to deleting all of the posts you've made, nor the images, nor the comments. So what exactly are you "deleting"? This would mean that our information would be sold or merged even if we were to go through with removing our accounts.

So the only way to effectively get rid of the posts and comments is to delete them one by one, but you've made this practically impossible by adding a limit to both editing and deleting comments.

As an example, if you search any "deleted" accounts name into the search bar, all of their posts come up and you can browse them. Try "IDidNotFart"'s account for an example. What's your thoughts on this? I know what mine are.
MartinTheFirst · 22-25, M
@Nuno I am certain, actually i know for a fact that Ididnotfart expected her account to be permanently removed with all data on her when she clicked that button. It's very misleading.
Nuno · Admin
@MartinTheFirst You can delete the posts, one by one, as you mentioned above. You can also request deletion in writing by email.
MartinTheFirst · 22-25, M
@Nuno Yeah I tried deleting my 3000 posts one by one but now the limit to delete posts has kicked in and I can not delete any more posts for God know hows long. It's been 30 minutes already and I still can't delete any more posts.
JustNik · 51-55, F
Hi Nuno. Can you explain to me what’s up with the “too short” thing? It wasn’t too bad before, but now we’re required to put a title on every post so we’ll be seeing that more. Is it a limitation that can be removed?
Nuno · Admin
@JustNik This is a necessary limitation to ensure posts are not of "too low quality". The more contents/words the posts have, the more interesting they become and therefore better quality.
JustNik · 51-55, F
@Nuno I disagree. There is power in a single word just as there is power in a picture - no words at all. Conversely, one can ramble out 100 words and say nothing at all. Quality has little to do with quantity.

It is your site and your perception runs the SW world. I understand that. Just offering another perspective. 🙂
DeWayfarer · 61-69, M
@JustNik Agreed!
AbbySvenz · F
