This is SW. This is a discussion site. What is the point of having a like or dislike on a posting? Would it matter if a posting was liked or disliked? Unless it is against the TOS, it will still exist. Reactions and Emotions and Dislike/Thumbs Down. Isn't this going to lessen people's responses? Already people are using emoticons on many postings. I guess they cannot be bothered to use words. Emoticons only are lazy and modern. That is how I feel about it. Let's have discussions.
@PoetryNEmotion It’s good to see you. 😊
*similes*☺
Crickets · 46-50, F
With one, you'll most likely see less post being posted in fear of ppl not agreeing or liking it, so it out weighs the likes that keep you posting.

Plus this place is full of trolls!
Crickets · 46-50, F
@Ambroseguy80 This place is about venting, and sharing things on your mind. (Plus asking questions), why would we want to see the dislikes on how WE feel? I can understand if we were having a contest, but this is a place to share our feelings and that shouldn't be judged.
Ambroseguy80 · 51-55, M
@Crickets I totally agree! Nothing steams me more than unsupportive people who have to take it the step further and criticize people.
beckyromero · 36-40, F
@Crickets So in other words, you think people would be more fearful of expressing their opinion for fear of being shouted down (and with whatever ramifications a down-vote algorithm would have in place)? Great way to stifle free speech. Why hasn't Trump thought of that?
SW-User
I think it will cause more drama...
Nimbus · M
@SW-User Couldn't agree more.
Primnproper · 56-60, F
I don't really see the point..people seem to enjoy voicing their dislike here and I don't think that would stop it, they would just dislike then have their say anyway to cause disharmony because they enjoy the reaction.
@Primnproper So true Girl, so true
Ambroseguy80 · 51-55, M
@BoobooSnafu and I second this!!!
SW-User
A dislike without context is meaningless and just causes bad feelings. I have no problem with "I disagree with this", but "I don't like this" means nothing. That is what filters, muting and blocking are for and there is no need to share your dislike with one click and no explanation.
Miklee02 · 51-55, F
Will cause drama....
Starcrossed · 41-45, F
I think it would be used to bully.
Peaches · F
@PoetryNEmotion But they don't and won't just pass by. I know it reflects on who they are and they don't care! I'd rather just get the thumbs down than read a bunch of their mentally disturbed ramblings, haha!😎
@Peaches I would rather handle each one individually than see a bunch of idiots thumbing down anything here.
Peaches · F
@PoetryNEmotion Well as you say, we can pass by and ignore them.
jackson55 · M
No, and Ladyryan makes a very good point.
jackson55 · M
@Ladyryan 😘
Ladyryan · 51-55, F
@jackson55 haha sweet thanks!
jackson55 · M
[@ My pleasure.
SW-User
idk but when are we gonna get some games
ZenKitzune · F
@SW-User I need to play the monkey slapping game right now!
SW-User
@ZenKitzune 😂 you'd love it
ZenKitzune · F
@SW-User I hope they make a satisfying noise
SW-User
I'm only seeing this now, I sure hope this doesn't happen. It will cause drama, hate, targeted bullying, ganging up on people because of them disliking their comments or posts, I can't think of one possible positive thing that would come from it.

Perhaps as an alternative there could be options for agree and disagree buttons where the votes are always anonymous
Yes. I love conflict & unrest.
SW-User
@DarlingSelah You scarstic little thing you! LOL
I was checking the poll. Even though more posters are saying “no”, more people are voting “yes”. So the people who don’t want it need to make sure they vote, too.
@Ambroseguy80 Yes. Someone asked Nuno.
SW-User
@bijouxbroussard Well he only asked for feedback from people that said no.
@SW-User Yeah, you’re right...
DrWatson · 70-79, M
On a different note, here is a response to the reactions/emotions reference in this question. I do think that is a good idea. I do feel a little funny "hearting" a post that is filled with angst , sorrow, pain, or frustration, as if I "love" the post. Something else like "empathize" would be nice.
@DrWatson Yeah, I agree with that. It was suggested that there could be a few more symbols/emoticons , than just the heart. Ones for 'I empathise', 'I'm sorry".'that was hilarious' - that sorta thing - I like that idea. Coz you can like a post, but for different reasons.

So instead of making it easier to be negative - let's make it easier to be positive👍
TJNewton · M
Hi nuno

I dont think you should have a dislike button there will always be differences of opinion on all subjects
People come here to share their experiences what they are going through some are emotionally upset due to personal circumstances so they write their answers as a form of comfort

If someone dislikes what they have wrote then they might end up in a worse condition than what they started with
And there are those people who will never be happy and will disagree with everyone and everything and will use the dislike button relentlessly

So in my opinion a dislike button is not a good idea
SW-User
I think it'd be a bad idea because this facility can get abused very easily.
TheOrionbeltseeker · 36-40, M
It would make it just like facebook. I don't like facebook personally.
beckyromero · 36-40, F
@Serenitree Well, there's no need to go running naked down the MIDDLE of a highway. My experience is that sidewalks are much safer.
TheOrionbeltseeker · 36-40, M
@beckyromero you have a point.
walabby · 61-69, M
SW-User
It will ultimately cause a popularity thing...
HeavenBesideYou · 56-60, F
I try to stay away from negativity
Rather keep things positive.
Nymnin · 26-30, F
Like a lot of social media now which don't have a thumbs down or a dislike it should stay that way especially here on SW.

We already have way too many people that are sensitive over everything. This can cause major issue and make people easy targets to bash on.

Can you imagine all the people that don't know how to ignore thread they don't like because they need to feel like they are right though the writer can be living in a different world where some people approve while the person leaving a rude comment is just being a dbag.

Having a dislike button just adds more gasoline on a subject that doesnt need to have tension.

People should stick to, if you don't like someone content block them and move on.

@1GHOST Aren't there enough sites being hacked for credit cards? Geez!
1GHOST · M
@beckyromero This site would not contain the info it would just be used to confirm the identity of the person through the credit company / other sites use this same format .
As for hacking / that would still by on your own credit cards responsibility .GEEZ get in formed first .
Because there is already a constant haze of poisonous gas looming over this place, I'd rather not do anything to encourage anything that could cause even further climate change.
SW-User
I think it's like a situation where it's better to keep your negative opinion on someone to yourself and only display it when it's asked for.
No, I think it would cause too much negativity and a breeding ground for arguments.

I think we should encourage a verbal response where possible, and if someone really finds a post distasteful for them to ignore and move on.
Serenitree · F
@InOtterWords Yes. The only other emoji I'd say would be useful, would be one that says I read this. The heart says I like/love this, and that's not always appropriate. Some things aren't actually likeable. Some are about someone having been abused, and to like it seems wrong, but it might be too hard to find appropriate words with which to respond. A simple acknowledgement that we read it, would be good.

✔️

One of those would work, just fine.
smmartydude · 36-40, M
I prefer someone have to write why they dislike something rather than just click an icon.
bowman81 · M
I don't care one way or another. I am free to post my agreement or disagreement with the content of the post using real words, sentences, and even paragraphs. If those who are upset with dissenting opinions are so fragile that they are hurt by people disliking something they post they do need to toughen up a bit.

A thumbs up or heart, and or a thumbs down emoji is just a lazy way of stating your opinion. Surely disagreeing with someone cannot be construed as bullying. We haven't really descended into "group think" have we?
@bowman81 That’s because you’re a grownup who would likely only check “dislike” when you disliked the content of a person’s post. People were going to posters and disliking all of their posts, because they disliked the poster. Some were even enlisting friends to do the same. Petty ? Of course, as is most bullying.
therighttothink50 · 56-60, M
@bowman81 hearts are already abused by the soros bots, so dislike will prolly be abused too, it doesn't matter, people who are wise can see through a bot, especially one with 50 views or less.
@bowman81 You will find this amusing, my friend. Today I was called a bully by a man who supported cheating. He said I was a bully as I spoke my strong opinions on the subject. He also said this to a young lady who spoke against him too.
QuixoticSoul · 41-45, M
I'd say no. It will be used for bullying and shutting down unpopular opinions.
jim44444 · 70-79, M
No, there is already too much negativity and disrespect on here.
Peaches · F
I don't see the point in it when some people just LOVE commenting with rude remarks as it is, that would just be rubbing salt into the wound. 😞If you made it to where no one could comment AFTER they click on the dislike button, then that would be good enough.⭐
What do you think, @Nuno? Do you think it would be a positive addition to this place?
Nuno · Admin
@KayraJordyn I, personally, prefer not to have the Dislike button, but still have the other emotions listed in my post above. However, we wanted to hear the opinion of our users. :)

@SW-User We don't always think about these trivial things. We spend our days also stopping offenders, looking at reports, replying to users, etc... while continuing to develop the website, fixing bugs and stuff like that.
If there is something that you want to mention, please do. Thank you very much.
SW-User
@Nuno I'm definitely aware of those things Nuno and it's very appreciated. Truly
I like the emotions idea, doesn't seem hugely important but it's nice to have. But yeah, I think users are less excited to have a dislike button option. Probably because there is already enough dislike here, and we want to feel free to share our stories without more negative feedback. Not sayin', just sayin'.

And thank you for replying, @Nuno.
76starships · 46-50, M
I’d like to have one, but I voted no. I think that would be trouble. There’d be a whole genre of posts here whining about something that was disliked.
SW-User
Yes, it’s gonna be FUN

@SW-User Oh boi.... SW what have you done? 😦
SW-User
@Fishy chaos!

I have a feeling all my posts are gonna have minus likes, so im against
@SW-User 😂😂 I have a feeling they will to
Keepitsimple · 51-55, F
Maybe an agree or disagree or I can relate. Not sure about a dislike button.
I joined Ep back when we could like or dislike each post- and like or dislike each reply to that post. I never had an issue with the dislike feature. The smart assed replies that were cold, when one needed and wanted support deserved that dislike. The "hearting" started about the same time as the metoo app did.

I am not so sure it fed negativity on the site at the time, Maybe it did. but the status of social media is a far cry , in 2018, from what it was in 2012. It may be an idea that is outmoded. But yet, on the review section of a Amazon page for a product we can say whether it helped- or not. A few others places that can be done as well. You tube for instance.--and some of the vile and hate filed flaming done on YT is terrible. BUT--most posts are not as such.

I thin a dislike option brings balance. Yes it is a support site but not all are going to agree with us. Be it our post or our comment on that post. I think by providing both option, to like or dislike the user is given both choice.
Ironicman · 56-60, M
Oh, I missed this post. For what its worth, and if its not too late, I suggest no options either way.

So remove the hearts as well. If you take interest in a post try and encourage people to say a few words and express themselves.
@Ironicman I've followed this post, and your possibly the first to offer a simplified solution, as to the more complex, (albeit, more optional), ones. It follows the KISS method beautifully - 'Keep It Simple',Stupid 😁

i have to admit - there is a succinct logical clarity to this - there's only one way to show your opinion....
.....and that is to reply.😌
Ironicman · 56-60, M
@BoobooSnafu thanks!
Alabamian · 26-30, F
Fishy · F
This is just a suggestion, but can we have a sarcastic/I'm joking font too?
Serenitree · F
@Fishy Why? All it takes is (jk) after the statement, and everyone knows what that means.
therighttothink50 · 56-60, M
Could try a respectfully disagree button, would hurt less snowflakes feelings :)
Petermorgan · 61-69, M
Why are people acting negative. All ur trying to do is pick up a hurt baby and give it life. All u know what i mean. We are special! We think! We need to do this in way many ways , not sqabble or be negative. I was always told "if u have nothing positive ro add, shutt the hell up"! I still think grandma was right!!
SAandME · 56-60, M
@Petermorgan Agreed, i was also raised with the "if you have nothing good to say then don't say anything" manners but that has all changed with the net. Because you can not see the effects and upset face to face people find it easy to be negative and damning online, it is now natural to this generation in fact some even get there fun from doing so.
We should have a 'throw off the gossips' button!! Gossips are offensive to site moral and disrupt its 'smooth running'!
@Peaches Where members can post their thoughts and comments without having to put up with the nastiness of some!
Peaches · F
@EugenieLaBorgia Sure would be nice....
@Peaches It would! Gossips , in real life, cause incredible torment to those whose emotions are fragile often leading them to take their own lives. They are no different online. Were it I, participating in the running of SW, they would be ejected immediately!
MURD3RM0NK3Y · 26-30, M
Yes make it happen. It only makes sense to have a dislike button along with the option to heart posts. But obviously I can’t heart every single post because some posts suck.
SW-User
Even if potential for negativity - it would be more honest.
Everything isn't always perfect rainbows
It's just other side of the coin - like reality
CheshireCatalyst · 36-40, M
@SW-User but there is already an option to discuss and disagree. The fact that it takes effort to do that is a good thing, just like it takes effort to disagree in reality.

Give trolls the option to put a negative response on everything with zero effort, and they'll just scroll through downvoting every post because they're bored and angry.
DeWayfarer · 61-69, M
Waste of time. Time better spent on improving the interface. Thousands of emojis are conveniently available right that ones finger tip if they only wished to install them.

Nope you can lose friends and make enemies from the down voting button.
SW-User
I think my posts would be full of them but sure, why not.
I'm in favor of a simple thumbs down option.
