Anybody had luck with slug moulds?

Is it worth the money to mould shotgun slugs? I read some factory loads are good for about 80 yards.

I personally don't liked a slug in a shot gun ,00 buck my limit
I need more knock down power I use a rifle .30-06 ,11/111
Dad always told me "Pick the right tool for the job "
Never found a slug and a shotgun to be that tool
but to each his own I guess

@rckt148 he may only need to swap out a barrel to make it work

@1GHOST I do understand ,I have been hunting over 40 yrs myself .and We do have different barrels for 1 gun
I go by the way I was taught since Dad was wise and I learned to respect he did not just say things for no reason ,
but did not mean to cause an argument ,,but I should have know better ,
I am also a vet qualified on various weapons ,so I do understand just a barrel change is all that is needed ,
But he does keep saying modern weapons it does not matter
so all I can say reloads ? ,right barrel or not ,its his gun
I plan to keep Dads guns how he gave them to me and use a rifle when more knock down power is required
as I said before
I should have asked what state he was in and the laws of the state and if he could use a rifle and then shut up
he cant use a rifle ,,which would be my preference over a slug

@rckt148 Well the 2 things that matter as far as modern guns and reloading are ;
not to over charge the powder
And making sure the round and barrel will work together / again more of a choke issue .

Both items can be answered by the gun manufacturer or after market barrel maker / stick with a brand name !

As for molding your own ..you can . But if your going to try to optimize your round by reloading you might try buying some factory precast ones there are so many styles .

@1GHOST thank you as bullet loading was the core of this question

@Powderflask I would first see if i could find a manufactured slug that meets your needs or is close.
Then based of that see if you can build upon it ( shape , charge , etc)
Then start to look at casting / but there are literally tons of slug types .

so many types so little time .

But sabots will get you a higher speed and range

lets just agree:😋

Maxwell Atchisson's automatic assault shotgun, dubbed the AA-12, delivers pure destruction to anything in its line of fire. The AA-12 can unload a 20-round drum of 12-gauge shotgun shells in under four seconds at a devastating 360 rounds a min.

@1GHOST Wow ,,I think we can agree with grenade shells and shot guns used to fire RPG's a shot gun is not without its merit,
I used something similar to a shot gun for firing projectiles that could have contained explosives of all kinds ,,but it was a line throwing gun ,,,
But we have now got way off point from someone reloading slugs
I never argued about the uses for a shot gun
and I think I explained why I don't use a slug ,,we'll just call it tradition ,respect for Dads gun ,Dads rules
Have a good one Ghost ,,glad it wasn't a pissing contest ,,
I would hate to see whats in your arsenal for that LOL

**dude some of this was just joking with what I assume is a fellow Vet ,,,the last part was for a laugh ,not to insult you ,,have a good one ***
