Do i need to sand a wooden chair before I paint it?

I ask because it has gloss on the wood. .

I have purchased a paint + primer..

YES! even without gloss, you'd want to sand it. With gloss, it's imperative or the primer wont adhere properly and you'll wind up with a spectacular mess

@firefall thank you. I'm new to this kind of stuff. I didn't use primer on that dresser i painted (advised by home depot guy) and its already peeling..

@iamnikki yeah, I've always found primer is essential for most things (and a good idea even when not essential) - and having a matt surface for it to stick to is just as big a deal
