my friends do and once I took 1 off of the shelf and I pulled the trigger and something went back and my nose area was in great pain

Your friends are irresponsible gun owners. If they keep loaded guns around, they need to control who has access to them and make sure everyone who does is knowledgeable about how to handle them. People like your friends give all gun owners a bad name.
