Sometimes friends can break your heart too.

When you show up to your best friends work place with gifts, food and balloons to surprise them as an early birthday present and they dont even pick up their phone or text you back and you realize they werent even at work so you look like an idiot. Why do I have this desire to make people feel special and loved!? The least he could of done was reply to me.

His birthday marks our 5th year friend anniversary. He recently got into some trouble with the law and he apologized because he was busy. He said he'll make it up to me. Said it'd be a date. But im more upset i called out of work to surprise him and i wasnt even able to.

Never be too nice to people. Too much selfishness now. Work on your self esteem and independence more. And dont try to please. A casual approach is more appropriate long term.

I'm sorry. That was inconsiderate. Possibly he was very busy, or distracted. The other possibility (which I've encountered) is that he doesn't take friendships as seriously or value them as he would a more "significant" relationship.
