My brothers wife

My brother died a few months ago from a heart attack leaving his Widow to fend for herself. She is close to my age, maybe a few years older, but not much, but she smokes like a chimney.

Today I am going on a hike into the back woods with my dog and was considering calling her, but not sure she could make the journey, I know exercise is hard for a smoker. What if I get her going on the idea and then she bails halfway through the hike or something, or maybe she dies on the trail or something, that would be awful. Maybe I shouldn't call her. What do you think?
An update on this, I was going to call her but her number is no longer on my phone for some reason. I am wondering if my wife deleted it, maybe thinking I was going to jump in there, but I could never date a smoker, it just grosses me out.

Anyways I went on the hike alone, it was pretty aggressive with lots of snow and ice and I had to slide down on my bum a few places. Up at the snow line it was a meter deep so she would never have made it. Even I was worn out at the end of that. It was about 8km climbing a mountain.

If your wife deleted your sister in law's number there is a real problem

Maybe you can downgrade the hike to a walk? (They are different in this non-hiker's book, lol.) At least ask, that would be nice. --DW

The problem with most smokers is stamina. They really struggle breathing during hard workout and cardio. It's not a bad idea, but your concern is genuine. How about making the walk a little shorter?

My DH is a smoker and drinker, who has taken up hiking once more. I am hoping it will encourage him to live a little healthier, because hiking has always meant a lot to him.

I hope it does. I love hiking too. Merry Christmas. @CoffeeFirst:

Merry Christmas to you, too. DH says hiking and being in the mountains is his spiritual place, so I hope he enjoys it more. You, too! :-)

I'm sure she would love your company.. If you no longer have her phone number, just drop by and explain things to her and see if she'd be interested in walking with you and giving you her number... Face to face should tell you a lot about her interest level.. Reach out a helping hand to her.

At least ask her. It is Christmas and she is probably lonely.

Ask her. May she would like the company
