I suppose so...I'd never really given it any thought until I met someone who only seemed to hang around attractive people. Not sure if it's subconscious or coincidental.

I can guess a couple of possibilities there.
Perhaps your friend falls for the fashionable or media ideas of good looking, and deliberately chooses friends for how they "look" to others. If that's the case, I'd be a bit wary of what lies underneath.
Or perhaps your friend is naturally attracted to people who are young, fit, active and healthy - which could be an unconscious and sexual thing.
But in a friend, I go for character. Someone with empathy, good ethics and divers interests in others and the world is someone who will always be interesting the converse with, and can be there through all the rollercoaster of life.
