Is my friend being rude?

So, I apologize, this may be a tad long.

So, my friend and I are in the same class, and for extra credit, we can take a field trip hosted by the school. The only issue is that the campus that we need to meet is the one downtown, and I am not allowed to drive downtown as I do not have much experience with that area, and there is a ton of construction, it is dangerous, etc. I asked my parents for a ride, and they don't seem to want to give me one, as we will be returning to the campus at 5:00, right when rush hour begins. My parents don't want to drive me home during rush hour. I asked my friend, (who just got a brand new truck) if I could drive to her house and if she would mind taking me from there. She said she didn't feel safe enough on the highway to do so, which I know is completely untrue because when I mentioned that I didn't feel safe driving there, she said that she was a totally confident driver and that it was the other drivers who worried her. Now, I told her that I wasn't sure if I could go because my parents don't want to take me, and she keeps saying "You have to come. I don't want to be alone." Yet she refuses to give me a ride even if I drive to her house first. I don't know if I'm reading too much into it, but I find it a bit rude. Not that she's obligated to give me a ride at all, but I just think that's what friends do. If it were the other way around, I'd give her a ride in a heartbeat. Thoughts?

That doesn't make any sense at all! If you're driving to her house, why wouldn't she give you a ride from there??? I think she's being SUPER rude and if I was you, I wouldn't consider her a "friend".
@DreamingOfSummer I agree. I offered to drive to her house so that she wouldn't have to take me home, and she now says that her dad is going to drive her, so I don't know.

I think it’s rude. It’s common for classmates to group up and work together on assignments and or to carpool. People that work together will sometimes take turns carpooling. I can think of other examples where people carpool and and turns being the driver. She might be trying avoid hanging out with you but being fake nice by asking you to come because she is a coward or does not want to be rude. That’s ironic. It’s just carpool though so I don’t know what the big deal is. You obviously can’t count on her. Can you ask someone else?
@Spoiledbrat I just don't know anyone else in that class well enough or how they drive well enough to trust them to take me.

Something is up with that in general, if she was already going...
@Spoiledbrat @Spoiledbrat @Spoiledbrat I'm a college student.
I can understand now why you don’t want to ask her to ask her father. It should be up to her to offer to ask her father if he wouldn’t mind taking the two of you ..once you get to her house. I don’t know why she didn’t offer. Maybe her dad is not into it and she knows it. It is common for college students to work together on assignments and this is an assignment. Why are you not allowed to drive there? Aren’t you old to drive yourself?@marilynmichelle
@Spoiledbrat I am old enough, but I don't have a ton of driving experience, and I don't know the downtown area very well. I am not allowed to take the highway yet, and there is a lot of construction downtown, detours, one way roads, etc. I would have to take local roads through unsafe areas of town, and it would take me a long time to get there.

By saying you have to come, then not offering you a ride, while bragging about her driving skills, she's really not giving you priority as a friend.
@PeanutsauntieP1982 I agree. Also today, when we had some free time offer class, she asked me if I wanted to get a smoothie, to which I said "sure" But when we arrived at our cars she goes "You can drive"

Yeah, you need to drop her like a hot potato. She sounds rather bitchy and presumptuous to me.

She's being rude for sure.
