Has anyone had a pen pal before?

The idea of having that kind of relationship with someone seems kind of amazing to me.

Had several as a teenager back in the day.
England; France; Germany; America and Sweden.
I learned so much in terms of language; culture; traditions etc.
It was really good !

That's what cracks me up today !
40 years on and you get this incredible thing called the internet where you can swap and exchange ideas and real information about your side of the world, yet so many use it to bitch about movies or other people they've never met !

@MissMollyCharlotte0702 really? please explain and back up your claim against that particularity about 'this generation'.

esp. in an age with international connectivity electronically.

some generalizing accusations you have there.

it's ok to cite sources also, SW allows linking.

@MissMollyCharlotte0702 Sad indictment on humanity isn't it .
Well in the experiences on this site.....I’ve tried dozens of times to chat about other things...It’s sex the majority want to talk about. Do you know how many stupid messages I get asking if I’m into younger guys, want to have sex with a younger guy? It’s ridiculous. 18-26 year olds send me these messages. So not exaggerating.

You know, I've never had an actual 'pen' pal, as for as actually hand writing letters and sending them in the mail, but with the advancement of technology and social media, I have several people whom we only communicate through messages via text and/or online. some whom we have never spoken on the phone, but we have had amazing and ongoing conversations. I would say that is today's version of a pen pal.
I had a pen pal from France when I was 18 and we wrote back and forth until I was 28. It was the last time I ever heard from him. I still read his letters from time to time missing our friendship. I think he has died. We wrote to each other for such a long time. It still makes me sad.

I had one, years ago. It was a storybook romance, believe it or not. Very long detailed letters, no pics. We fell in love over pen and paper.

@Zoranna it's ok. I kind of like that that's all we had. It was a special time in my life.

I did when I was a kid. It was quite common then (pre internet, email etc)

I had a bunch in the early days of the internet. Writing letters was still a thing because our emails were tied to universities, so they were inaccessible outside of school.
